Clearly you haven't used these services. I don't know of a single restaurant on there that charges $9 for delivery. Lots are free for an order for 2-3 people.

We use it at work quite often since we can't readily leave to go get food. Decent service, but I find the ratings are all over the place. Some spots with 4.8 stars are reviewed horribly on more trusted review sites.

It's also great if you don't want to be confined to Pizza or Chinese food.

Ok. Did these guys bankrupt your business or something? A lot of hate for a service you don't have to use.

Nope. I don't hate them. I hate their business model and won't support it.

I doubt you even understand the business model. This is literally no different than the restaurant delivering it to you but actually it's even better and you get to know exactly where the car is.

And it's no where near $9 a delivery like you stated in your first post.

It's because they are from Winnipeg, isn't it?

If I owned a restaurant, I'd like it because instead of a having a driver on staff/on call twiddling their thumbs half the time, I can pay someone piecemeal. More cost efficient.

Are you sure? this is like some Uber-level hating going on here.

Yep for sure. I don't use Uber either but have less against Uber than Skipthedishes.

Most restaurants have gotten rid of that model long time ago anyways. There are now delivery companies in Calgary that restaurants use that pays them per delivery. Most places use that but still use skipthedishes because it brings them more business as well.

Used it in Winnipeg when I travel there for work. I'm always quite impressed with what I get. Last time, I had some really good Thai food.

The temperature of the food is an issue, for sure, but I do like that many of the restaurants have free delivery if you spend a certain amount. Makes life a lot easier

Skipthedishes is my new favourite, we take out a lot more than i'd like to admit; and this sure helps mix up the pace from regular pizza and Chinese. The biggest advantage to me is that I have the menu right there, i don't have to call anyone, and i can easily order and pick what I want. If I want to save tip/delivery, then I can always go pick it up.

Is this the service where the Italian drops off your food?

Better than Boston Pizza. I ordered from there last week and they charged me $8 for delivery!

Won't be ordering from there again. I should have paid more attention.

That's just crazy. It's worth driving to pick it up at that price.

I used it the other day where they noticed the delivery took longer than expected (due to construction) and automatically credited me $5. Food was still hot when I got it too.

Not really - if the restaurant delivers they get all the $$ and don't pay Skip the Dishes 25% of the tab. But they would have to pay a delivery driver and unless they do a ton of takeout it's most likely cheaper to pay the 25%.

If you're picking up it's much better (for the restaurant) to call them directly than order through Skip the Dishes. Obviously it's better for Skip the Dishes if you order through them.

But that isn't what we are talking about. We are talking about it being delivered.

Northcrunk’s got some hot takes. I would love to hear your thoughts on what their business model is. I met and got drunk with the founder of Skip the Dishes about a year ago.
