I don't know, I think this trailer does its job well and I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out. Now that they've wrapped up the story with the Saviors, they basically have a clean slate to work with and a new show runner at the helm (Angela Kang). Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes in S7 and 8. It's time for this show to ramp up the awesome and get back to a tighter and more exciting narrative.

The next chapter after the Negan war in the comics is pretty great. The good thing about the way this show is set up, is that it's following a chapter like format. They can wash their hands clean of the awful way they handled the Negan war and start fresh.

We must have been watching a different trailer. Lots of interesting stuff in there. Seems a return to a major city is going to happen. That alone is pretty cool.

Do you mean the (un)covered wagon they're pulling down the stairs at about 1:03? It looks like a museum rather than a church.
I'm guessing they decide to go on a scavenging run into Washington DC and decide they could use a pioneer's wagon more than the museum can.

I wonder if those are Ricks boots at 2:44 and that's the beginning of his end.

Just based on this, I'd assume that at least the first half of next season (if not the entirety of it) will be dedicated to world building (introducing us to the post-saviour state of affairs in the various communities several years after we left off) and strife between those camps. So whether that sort of thing appeals to you will determine whether you think this is a lot going on or not.
At the pace they're going they have probably 3 more seasons of story to catch up to where the comics are now - of course, the comics are still going. I wonder how far they get.

So it's now been confirmed that both Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohen are leaving after season 9.

Based on interviews she's done about leaving it sounds like they could very well leave the door open for her to return so maybe they won't kill off Maggie.

So..... boring!
Did they actually just have 20 minutes of grieving people over a character we've known for 5 minutes?
I get that it's supposed to set up the fracturing of the leadership but holy man, I'm sure you could accomplish that without lulling us to sleep for half an episode.

Yea, that was pretty uneventful, and not a promising start to the season. Watching Maggie slowly turn into the new Negan was kinda cool though.
Also, is it just me, or does it seem like there are way more commercials during this show than any other series on TV? It honestly feels like we get 30 minutes of show and 30 minutes of commercials. Even fast forwarding through them on PVR is irritating.

I actually started falling asleep halfway through and had to fight it off so I wouldn't have to rewatch the episode. That wasn't a good way to start off the season.

Agree with the lame funeral thing. As soon as the singing started I was ready for it to be over.
For an 1.5 hour episode, not a ton to see.
