There is a was in my neighborhood of Squirrels v Magpies. I thought the Magpies had won, but I heard the squirrel war cry this morning. The battle continues...

You should try east Vancouver, we have 300,000 of them, the single largest rookery in the world

They keep flying into my yard and taking my dogs poop to eat it. Thanks Magpies!

So perhaps the question should be, "how can we get all of our magpies to join their brothers in Edmonton?"

Then substitute .22 for anti aircraft guns

My neighbour has a live trap that catches 2 at a time . Last year we had 20 at a time . I think he said he caught 30 last year . This year we never see them.
And he was nice enough to relocate the Magpies to the garage and into the black bin.
Maybe the green bin now !

Canadian tire needs to carry magpie crucifixes, get a few of those going and I'd bet the other magpies cast a pretty wide berth around your place. Downside: no more girl scout cookies either.

It actually works really well(no crucifix needed, though who am I to stop you?). Last year one died and fell out of the tree. It was on the edge of my driveway, so I just left it. It was there a few weeks and I had zero magpies after that. They stayed away the rest of the summer. It was glorious. They are back this year though, the little ####ers.

Never worked for me, in fact, others started eating the dead one.

That sounds like a zombie magpie infection. You are going to have to upgrade your attacks to include fire, and lots of it.

My dog once killed a magpie in the backyard that was getting at his food. When the magpie took it's last breath, magpie warriors came out of nowhere at started dive bombing my dog. From the sky's swooped in the crows. There must have been 20 birds at war in my back yard. Neighbours were coming out of their homes looking around to figure out what was happening. It was pandemonium.

My kids found a baby rabbit behind our garage, later that day I saw a magpie harassing the rabbit, chased it away. Just before bed my wife grabs me and points to the backyard where I see the corpse of the rabbit twitching after a magpie killed it.
By the time I got outside the magpie had eaten the rabbits organs and torn the body apart.
Nature is horrifying. Thankfully my kids didn’t see it. I saw the mother later that night coming around looking for her baby (had another one in tow) which is apparently something rabbits do.
Broke my heart a little bit even though rabbits are a total pest.

I back onto a green space with the usual Calgary wildlife. rabbits, magpies, crows, sparrows, robins and even a family of what I think is a partridge or something similar. There was a red tail hawk last summer but I haven’t seen him around this year.
The magpies are giant dicks and pick on every other species. But watching them outflank the rabbits is fascinating. They strategically position at various positions to systematically harass and herd the rabbits out of the area.
No dead bodies though, at least that I’ve ever seen.
