There are Magpies nesting in a tree at my Mom's house. I thought I knocked out the nest with a long pole, but I was wrong the nest seems to be huge. I tried again but now the bird knows what I am doing and is very aggressive. Whenever I show up it circles over my head and watches me. I went to get the mail the other day and the bird followed me, it landed on ever fence as I walked to the box. It is very creepy and weird. I think they might have babies.
Does anyone know how to deal with this? If they have babies I hope to do things in a humane way.
Personally leave them alone, they'll be gone soon enough. I believe that the young leave by the end of July.
While Magpies can be aggressive (they're also one of the boldest and smartest birds out there), unless you really approach their nest and try to dislodge it, they'll basically just watch you and warn you off if you get to close. But if you attempt to dislodge the nest once the clutch has been placed they can get really aggressive.
I think at this point you let nature take its course. Dude its nature, enjoy it.
It could be worse. You could have a nest laid by a hyper aggressive species that's into dive bombing if you get within ten feet of the nest.

That's the problem I already tried to dislodge it, twice. Now it's watching me.

And that was the biggest mistake, if you'd left the nest alone, the Magpies probably would have let you live.
Now they're using their super smart bird brains to watch you, figure out you're patterns, wait for you to make a mistake, and then murder you.
The Magpie's are going to be weary of you for the next couple of months, because you threatened their nest. But if you behave appropriately and give them space they'll probably go back to ignoring you.
But if I was you, I'd do one of two things. I'd make sure that all of my doors and windows are locked at night, and if you hear your name being called from outside at night don't go out on your own to investigate. I'd also tell my loved ones that I love them and update your will.
Or you could throw your meager belongings in your car and run, and hope that you can outrun the coming storm.
The Magppie waits.

Then of course ready the needle-snakes to eat the lizards, and then the snake-eating gorillas. Don't worry about the gorillas, when winter comes along they will just freeze to death.
