The Columbus Blue Jackets suck.

I can understand why a kid from southern Jersey would take Columbus over Calgary and it's all cultural.

Oh wow, 2 hours to Cleveland for $18MM less? Gaudreau hit the jackpot fo sho.
What a moron.

I can't wait to follow the drama that is likely going to unfold with the Tkachuk negotiations now. Treliving didn't sound super positive when asked about Tkachuk, and Tkachuk is likely pissed about losing his linemate with whom he has chemistry with, with no obvious replacement in sight.
Probably worth starting a separate thread because I think barring a trade or offersheet, this one goes the distance. There is arbitration or him accepting his QO of course, but if that happens, might as well trade him because you just know he will be one-and-done.

Should have traded him already. His value is going down every day. Treliving is an idiot for holding on to these guys. It’s obvious they don’t want to be in Calgary

Yup, you’re exactly right lol. I think there’s a quote from Gaudreau saying he had no clue about Columbus before he went there or something.
Im not saying you can’t be happy in places like Columbus. I’m saying it’s a very undesirable place for people who grew up in Gaudreau’s neck of the woods, and to me even for those people most would much prefer Calgary after visiting both.
Let’s face it, he just doesn’t like the spotlight.

Apologies if it's been posted a lot already in this thread -- but how does arbitration work for Tkachuk coming up? He can choose to file, right? How many seasons can an arbitrator award? Can he sign a deal with or an offer sheet elsewhere anytime before the arbitrator ruling?

Tkachuk can choose arbitration. The arbitrator can award a 1 or 2 year contract but it’s almost always 1. And yes, he can sign a deal or accept an offer sheet up until a decision.

In my mind, an offer sheet might be best case scenario, although I think it's unlikely. As much as I like Tkachuk, I think the franchise could use the compensatory picks more, now that Johnny has gone and a rebuild is more likely - if the offer is over $10.5 million, the Flames would get 4 first-round picks.
I doubt it'll happen, but we should almost be hoping for the offer sheet.

Yeah, but for signing it. If Tkachuk takes the QO, tear it down

I just don’t see him doing that. Either sign long term or trade. Cash in on the 104pt season should be a priority

Time to either remove Gaudreau’s name from the thread or create a Chucky watch thread

Tkachuk’s production is going to drop off quite a bit this year I suspect. Will be interesting to see what he does. Will he end up carrying his own weight and be a true 9 million dollar player or is he really only a 5/6 million dollar player

Maybe a bit, but Nashville is pretty accessible from Calgary, and Vancouver is a world city with easy access to other world cities like Seattle and San Francisco.
I'm not sure there's all that much more to being in Columbus than being in Calgary other than potentially a border crossing issue that is exacerbated by the pandemic.
