This did not feel like a game in Honduras. Seemed like a far cry from the past where you felt like it was a place that permitted Canabalism. Great result for the team!

They could do some damage with the right group. People have said that winning the OCHO is not important but it would raise Canada's FIFA rankings and get them into Pot 3 perhaps. It would be good if they could draw one of those crappy African teams and perhaps a weak Pot 2 team like a Switzerland or a Serbia or a Scotland (ducks).

Just a goal, please.
May get a result vs a minnow or Scotland, but get the experience.
CTV/TSN has TV rights, so I assume for the Canada games it will be Luke Willeman.

CRC 4th now.
You have to think that the game where they best CRC or Panama, will seal Qatar. I actually still think it will be the game vs Jamaica if all things go well these next couple games.
And, again, Canadian soccer can thank Covid for this second chance qualifier, just like the coin flip vs Korea in the winning Gold Cup tourney.

Winning the ocho by getting results in our games is important. Hoping for Mex and US to lose to give us a better shot at winning it doesn't help us any though.
At this stage we are hoping for us, USA, and Mexico to win ... and whoever is in fourth at the moment to lose.

Panama is still 4th. Google updates the table with pending results confusingly.

It would have been interesting with the old proposed system. Canada may have steamrolled the losers tournament to set up a date with New Zealand.

Great goal Jonathan David and some really good stops by Borjan as well.
I kept flipping between the Flames and Canada’s game but should have just watched Canada. Can’t wait for Sunday.

You strike when the iron is hot.
Canada is rolling, and a lot of things are going well. I hope when they get to Qatar they are not just happy to be there, and try to make some noise.
In short tournaments, anything can happen. We have some players that can make something out of nothing.
I'm hoping for R16 for Canada and I think that is realistic.

So I ran some numbers and this is the top teams possible to make the World Cup going by the latest rankings (which would change, especially since Europe is not playing in this window)
Teams already qualified in bold
Pot 1
48. Qatar (hosts)
1. Belgium
2. Brazil
3. France
4. England
5. Argentina
6. Italy (over 8. Portugal, 37. Turkey and 67. N. Macedonia)
7. Spain
Pot 2
9. Denmark
10. Netherlands
11. USA
12. Germany
13. Switzerland
14. Mexico
15. Croatia
16. Colombia (over 35. Australia) (playoff)
Pot 3
17. Uruguay
18. Sweden (over 27. Poland, 32. Czech, 34. Russia
19. Wales (over 25. Ukraine, 31. Austria, 38. Scotland
20. Senegal (over 45. Egypt)
21. Iran
23. Serbia
26. Japan
28. Morocco (over 64. Congo DR)
Pot 4
29. Algeria (over 50. Cameroon)
30. Tunisia (over 53. Mali)
33. South Korea
36. Nigeria (over 52. Ghana)
40. Canada
46. Ecuador
51. Saudi Arabia
63. Panama (over 110. New Zealand) (playoff)
So Canada needs to keep winning. They have an advantage that they have 5 games left. A win over the US would be huge bonus points since the US is ranked 11th.
Africans only have 2 games left, Asians 3, South America 3. The European playoff teams have possible 2 games but the qualified Europeans are done.
Obviously everyone wants to get into Qatar's Group.
And cheer for low ranked teams below Canada!
Early death group.
Brazil
Germany
Uruguay
Canada
