Exactly. No idea what buddy is talking about. If he isn’t first he told Everett to pound sand and is going to BCHL, which is hugely unlikely because they are parading him around today.

I think what he's saying is Dupont's camp should tell Everett, PA, Tri-city, Kelowna and Edmonton if they pick him he won't play for them and instead go play in a different league. Then they all pick someone else because that's better than wasting the pick on a player who won't report, and then he'll be available at 6th overall for the Hitmen.

Not sure why he would do that though, unless he wants to stay in Calgary I guess?

He kind of lucked out though if he likes winning, because Everett is a top 4 or 5 team in the league and they are consistently good year after year, so he won't have to endure being on a bottom feeder despite going 1st overall.

It doesn't have to be that way. Flames trade someone in 24-25 (say, Markstrom) for a 2026 1st that's top ten protected. The other team finishes top 10 or something in 25-26 (but Flames are suddenly good because they won 2024 lottery and already in POs) and uses its protection. Same team finishes poorly again and wins lottery in 27 but that pick belongs to the Flames.
