Cape Spear is worth checking out.

Petty Harbour, your kid may like the mini aquarium.

Taking North Head Trail from Outer Battery Road gives you some nice views. The Trail says it is closed for repairs but some folks were walking their dog on the other side of that sign. Maybe a bit much for the kid.

Raymond’s is awesome. I went there last summer. Merchant Tavern is also really good. Same ownership but more of a casual walk in place.

You've got all the big sites listed, lots of people like wandering the shops on Water Street too.

With your kid, skip Raymond's and go to Ches's imo unless you have a sitter .

My kiddo dug the bird sanctuary out at Cape St. Mary too but that's a big drive, the plus is you get to see more of the real NFLD outside of "town" if you stop off in a few places along the way. For me the best part of Newfoundland is the small towns, lots of old buildings and beach combing on the rocky beaches is what my kids like to do best especially when they are that little.

Avoid the shore/CBS as it's become more like a suburban sprawl of St. John's but if you drive past there the western part of conception bay is pretty neat with Harbour Grace, Port au Grave and Brigus etc, about an hour drive out, definitely a slow pace of life out there.

I don't know what's on right now but a lot of the smaller towns have festivals and garden parties throughout the summer that are fun too.

St. John's was great BTW - we will definitely return. Raymond's was super - better than anything in Calgary (also, pretty much more expensive than anything in Calgary too ). We are going to come back just for the restaurants and eat for a week.

We’re going back at the end of August. Any other restaurants that you recommend?

I’ve been to Raymond’s, Merchant Tavern, Mallard Cottage and Chess’s before (all excellent). So many places I’d love to try.

St John's restaurants I'd recommend that aren't on your list:

Bernard Stanley
Chinched
Chafe's Landing (in Petty Harbour)
St. John's Fish Exchange
Yellowbelly (a decent brewpub, brews on premises)
Olivers

I probably forgot a few

Petty Harbour itself is a pretty cool place - neat to go walk around the harbour and then on some of the trails and then grab lunch or dinner at Chafe’s Landing

Indeed, it's a cute little town and the gift shop has some stuff made by local artists.

Also, you can see where Orca was filmed Bo Derek gets her leg bit off by an orca, hahahaha. And Richard Harris is a legend.

Quidi Vidi Brewing Company

I second this, and after you have a good buzz on go for a hike on the bluffs above the brewery.
