Default Blinds / Window Coverings

I've got my eye on some cool blinds that I can schedule, like hunter Douglas or Lutron, but man are they expensive. I'm wondering what's the best place to get these for the least amount of money. It seems like a pretty protected market (tough to shop around). Anyone done all the research and point me in the best (cheapest) direction?

We went with an independent Hunter Douglas consultant when we did our blinds 3 years ago. He was great because I changed my mind about 4 different times and he really helped us get the price down (it's freakin expensive).

I have friends who've had good experiences with Budget Blinds as well, but I've personally never used them.

My Buddy Tyrell at Sonata blinds and fashions is the best. I promise you this! He just finished all the drapes at our house and we wanted HD blinds to begin with and he gave us the best price.

Are you going to install them yourself?

Fair enough. If you do it yourself you can save gazillions.

We got hunter Douglas through Sears....they were expensive but totally worth it IMO. Especially the blackout blinds for bedrooms and entertainment room. Process was pretty smooth, installation good.

It's a long shot, but if you are looking for some basement window blinds I have some really good quality ones that I'd let go for cheap. They are white slats. They don't fit after I did Reno's. I can get measurements on Thursday when I fly home from work.

You should check out Creative Interiors (http://creativeinteriorscalgary.com). It's a family run business and they know their stuff when it comes to Hunter Douglas.

Why? Isn't it like six screws and then pop the blinds in to the brackets?

Yeah it's easy and I did mine myself, but a lot of people pay for installation and I wasn't judging him for that is all.

I got mine through Costco. They are high quality at reasonable prices and of course their return policy is great if you need to use it (I didn't)

Where can I order the stuff to save gazillions? Seems like most places the install is sub $500 for the whole house. If I don't install it myself I can easily hire someone to install them if I save on the purchase.

I don't think the install is difficult or anything, but we'll be like 30 windows and lately I just don't have a half day to get this done.

https://www.blinds.ca/
http://www.blindsgalore.ca/

I've used the first two in the past. They have their own cheap brands and also offer some of the name brands, and usually so much cheaper than buying locally that you could hire someone to come install them and still be way ahead money wise.

When I did the blackout cellular blinds in my basement ordering online cost 1/3rd the lowest quote I got from a local company for the same brand.

We used an independent consultant for Hunter Douglas and she was less than 50% of what Costco wanted. Same book of samples to choose from. So yeh it does pay to shop around a bit.

I used Costco to replace some cheap one to Hunter Douglas, care to provide some info on your consultant.

I am out right now but will dig up the info when I get home. We were looking for window coverings to last us until we do our renovation so were not looking to break the bank. We ended up paying less than 900 for the windows we needed covered, including install.

The Costco rep was over $2000 and left in a mood when we told her we had another quote. She said we were wasting her time!

Anyway, not bashing Costco. If you look in my house you would see the local Costco is well supported. Just didnt work out for the blinds.

There is a lady I used when I lived in Calgary. They are Hunter Douglas style, but a fraction of the cost. I paid 1200 for 11 full size windows. I've recommended her many times and every time she gets good reviews from them. If you want, pm me and I will pm you details.
