Best not to try and figure out anything related to RFa, ufa, waivers, contracts, ahl/junior eligible players. Just let getbak and sureloss instruct us

In the 20 man roster the Flames are 16th oldest in the league,
All teams have a solid group of 25 and under, it is a function of the salary cap. ELCs and RFA contracts are needed to fit under the cap.

I would add Svenningson as well. I think he's got some potential.

Waiver exempt players are all explicitly labeled on CapFriendly. It takes less than 15 seconds to look up if a specific player is exempt or not.

That's a terrible way to judge roster age.
The Flames only key contributors that are advanced in age are Mike Smith on a one year contract and their captain.
The rest of the core is all very young.
Mohanan, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Lindholm, Backlund all in their 20s, and Neal.
Giordano, Brodie, Hamonic and Hanifin have one guy in the 30s.
Rosters that have guys like Stajan and Brouwer on the fourth line get weighted upward.

Usually dont see a landslide like this so deep in the rankings. Tells me there's a but of a ledge here as far as the consensus is concerned.

I wonder how many more rounds it will take before one of this year's picks shows up?
Most years, the current draft class starts showing up in the top 5. In 2015, Kylington was 10th, but he started receiving votes as early as the second round.
So far, this year's draft class has received a total 4 votes over 8 rounds, and none yet in this round. A top-10 finish is unlikely. Obviously, it's a by-product of not picking until the 4th round, but it will be interesting to see where they start appearing, and who will be first.

I would agree.
There was a ledge after Valimaki (only A+ prospect); a large group of A prospects (2-8) and now another ledge after Gillies where our B level prospects reside.

While true, lack of prospects is still a real problem, because that's the only way you can get what is the best value-for-money player you can have: an impact player on an ELC contract. IIRC last season all 4 top teams had one. This is a big reason why I'm very iffy about trading way all those draft picks the way we have. They're not just a chance to get a top player, they're a chance to get the kind of top player there's almost no other way of getting. (You can luck out on the Euro UFA market, but that's extremely rare.) It's really difficult to make up for that lost opportunity.

I agree with Svenningson, and would also like to add Lindstrom (a Backlund-like player), Pettersen (seems to have a tonne of skill), and Zavgorodny really peaks my interest with his skills and Datsyuk-like two-way puck-hound game. I think there is a lot of depth in skill and a nice influx of players with a size/toughness combo as well.
I know you will correct my peaks my interest to the correct piques my interest, purposefully doing this as a test. lol
