This one was even harder than the last grouping.
I think a healthy Carter makes a big difference for the Kings.
Couture is a fantastic center. Hertl is a load to handle with with size. Meir isn't as strong as some of the other wingers but Couture makes up for it.
Backlund is a good two way center. Tkachuk is a big point producer and may have another step to take.
Would have had Anaheim higher but there is smoke around whether Kesler will be able to get back to form. Would have them 2-3 if Kesler reverts to form.
Statsny is very underrated. If he stays healthy this line could be better than expected.
Draisaitl is great. Lucic coming off the worst shooting % of his career. Might bounce back ala Kopitar. If he gets back to 20 goals this line could rise up the list. It is believed Rieder will be the winger here rather than Kassian.
Grabner is always good to create his own offence. Dvorak may develop into something.
Maybe Eriksson can bounce back. Pretty bleak otherwise.
I feel like LA and SJ are probably the class of this grouping unless other teams have break outs.
3-6 is pretty even I would say and a lot depends on who is running hot or cold as the season progresses.
Arizona and Vancouver lag badly as all the other teams have a impact player or two on their second line.

Yeah...He's probably, at worst, the 14th best forward, let alone LW.

There's some debatable choices ahead of him - JVR, Guenztel, Kovalchuk (really who knows at this point), Rakell, Marchessault (based on a single year). Forsberg is ranked really high for some reason. I wouldn't quibble about Marchand, Ovie, Hall, Giroux being ahead, or even Panarin or Benn.

Marrchessault has scored near 30 two years in a row now... he is less questionable than many on that list.
Forsberg is amazing, and more complete player, watch him play and hes almost always the best player on the ice with puck on his stick.
I think Johnny should be higher but if they factor in defensive zone play, he definitely falls down a bit and I can almost see how they get him in the 8-12 range
JVR and Guentzel sound like click bait putting them on the list

Last year, Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland was running top 3-5 all the way until February, when injuries did them in.
G-M-N has to be top 10 in the NHL, if not top 5. They have the potential to score 100 goals. And there won't be more than 3 lines that do that in the entire league.

That site also has Derek Ryan rated as a better centre than Backlund.
I'd love to see what dataset/weighting they pull from.

Of course MacDavid is the best player by a margin, but those other two players drag this line down. There's no way it's the best line in that group, I'd take Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal every single day over the Oilers line.

I don't know don't the oilers have some shiny new first round pick they can't wait to rush into the league to play on mcdavid wing

They are so bad that we can’t contain all the no goodness with just one thread. The taint spills over into threads like this.

Oilers win the third line (if you only count draft position).
If Ryan plays like last year, Frolik plays like two years ago and Bennett plays like three years ago, then that's a good line.

Ducks third line is tremendous.
Kings
Knights
Sharks
Oilers
Flames
Canucks
Yotes
It gets a little blurry here as some guys got the opportunity to play further up the lineup last year due to injuries and as a result recorded more points than they would have gotten playing solely on the third line.
Some also get PP time which drives up their production.

Oiler fans, thinking just the presence of McDavid automatically thrusts their depth chart to the top of the division.

Just the first line.
And I think most rational fans would agree with that.

Not a chance when a fringe NHLer is considered the top line RW.
