I'm not sure it's passion that is lacking in FAA's game, but he clearly needs a new approach and team in his camp when he keeps going through these insane peaks and valleys in his game. A guy like Murray or Agassi would be smart given their prowess with the return game, backhands and being mentally strong. Something FAA needs to drastically improve on.
I don't know how you go from having a brutal start on hardcourt to having a great clay season, to being brutal on grass and then great again at the Olympics and Cincinnati, only to look like crap again at the US Open all in one season. Despite changing surfaces, your game should not being rising and dropping that drastically every couple of weeks when you're a top 20 talent.
I guess when you look at it, he really hasn't beaten anyone in the top 10 this year or last year outside Ruud and Rune, so it goes to show that he's simply not at all at a level where he's going to contend in the biggest tournaments.

I just don't see any passion in his game right now. He needs to seriously ask himself if tennis is really for him. He is so talented, he should be going deep in every slam but it's the same pattern. Gets behind in a match, and then goes through the motions. I want to see him get angry, scream when he wins a crucial point and really dig in and not give up. He just does the same thing and then at the net he's polite to his opponent and moves on. These losses don't even seem to bother him, which is most troubling. In the last 2 years he lost in the first round of a major 5 times. That's unacceptable for any player let alone a supposed top 20 player. Its frustrating as a fan seeing him waste his prime years, I'm rooting for him to succeed but he makes it so hard to stay positive about his game.

Mensik isn't a mug but a 2, 4, 2 loss in the first round of the US Open is an extremely poor result for Felix. What is it going to take for him to realize that Fontang has taken him as far as he can?

I think Mensik will be a future top 10 player, he's already got an outstanding game and he's only 18 years old. As for Felix, he's gotten too comfortable with Fontang and apparently doesn't want to make a coaching change.

It's a damn shame he's going to waste the prime of his career with Fontang. I once felt he would win a grand slam after that fantastic indoor season a few years back but at this point it appears he will be lucky to win an ATP 250 event.

Felix and Oikos going out on the same day of the US Open seems very apropos. They were hailed as the future of men's tennis just a few short years ago and now it would be a big surprise if either guy managed to win a grand slam.

Dan Evans comes back from love-4 down in the 5th set to win six straight games and eliminate Silent K. Over a 5 1/2 hour battle between the two guys.

Potapova bringing out the louder, extended grunts late in set 3 versus Leylah. Getting close for the umpire to call hindrance.

I mean, she's still grunting as Leylah is preparing to hit the ball and the umpire does northing, it's clear hindrance at this point.

Remember when Canadians were actually winning matches in grand slams? It's like we are trending back to the dark decades of Canadian tennis.

I mean, even in some of the darker days, we still had guys like Martin Laurendeau and Grant Connell making the third round.

How much gas does she have left though, we know Paolini can run for days.
