I mean, credit to Draper for acknowledging that he shanked his volley into the ground, but I still stand by the fact that he knew in the moment that it wasn't a good shot. Also, offering to replay the point is also pretty lame, you know the point should have been awarded to Felix. I think Draper is a pretty decent chap and hopefully if a situation like this arises in the future, he'll do the right thing.

It was a big win for him and I understand the temptation to pretend he didn't know what happened. That said he should have realized the video would always be there as would the questions of how he couldn't know. Roddick said that he absolutely had to know and it's just one of those things where sometimes it's human nature to take the bad call in your favor even when you know it's the wrong call. I've been a part of enough doubles matches where it comes up sometimes that your partner has a better angle/view on a shot they call out even though you and your opponents thought it was in. Unless it's egregious, I find it hard to overrule my partner if they had the better view/angle even if the opponents aren't happy.

It should also be noted that Greg Allensworth is umpiring at the US Open (currently working the Dimitrov match). No leadership nor accountability within any of the governing tennis bodies these days.

Based on their current rankings, Brandon Nakashima eliminating Holger Rune in straight sets is an upset. Based on current form, however, this is no upset.

Can I still blame Mouratoglou somehow for this?

Felix down a break in the opening set versus Jakub Mensik. The kid from Czechia has all the tools.

FAA is just a hot mess out there again today spraying his forehand and serve all over the place. He is such an enigma in the sense that you really just don't know what you're going to get from him from one tournament to the next.
He better get after it quickly here as the open is going to slip away quickly here against someone like Mensik if he doesn't.

I guess that's the good thing about best-of-five matches. it gives you time to iron things out while at the same time your opponent's level might drop as well.
Halfway though set 2 and six double faults already, you can't be giving away that many free points.

That was the first time it seemed like he really dug in. Had he dropped serve again it would have been pretty much lights out down 2 sets.
If Felix can find a way to snag this second set I like his chances, but it is going to be an absolute grind for him to fight through his form today.

Big hold just now by Felix from 15-40 down, Mensik got a little passive and started just pushing the ball back waiting for an error, Felix took charge and played some fine points.

Yeah, maybe he can steal set 2 in a tie-break or with a late break of serve. He's certainly playing better now than he did in the opening set.
Edit: Or Mensik can win the second set by breaking Felix. I'm going to play some tennis with the wife, hopefully Felix cam rebound here, but it's not looking good.

I'd play another set or do some drills to extend the hit....FAA is done like dinner now.

So much for Felix I guess.
Shapo 12:15pm
Fernandez 2:15pm
Andreescu 5:00pm
Tentative times, in Mountain (I think)

After this match, Felix's first call should be to Andy Murray begging him to coach him. If Felix played with 10% of the passion and determination of Murray he'd be top 5 and win a Grand Slam.
