Richard Gasquet lost in qualifying for the Open and is retiring. He will forever be known for 2 things:
1) Beating Federer in 2005 when Fed went 81-4 that year
2) successfully getting his coke suspension revoked because he argued he got exposed by making out with a model
Legend
Gasquet was ranked the best junior of his generation. I believe he's still the youngest player every to win a Masters 1000 match at age 15. The most perfect one-handed backhand. But he didn't quite make it to the top as a pro because he's French.

Diallo gets one of the other 5 guys, Jaime Munar. Definitely winnable and would probably get Authur Fils in round 2. Probably the best section he could draw.
Schwartzman vs Monfils!

Take a short vacation for a few days and quite a bit has happened. Best news is Gabriel Diallo qualifying for the US Open, way to go Gabe!! Worst news is Sinner testing positive for PED's yet getting a pass, that doesn't sit very well with me.

If Shapo can win his first round match versus BVDZ, he'll likely take on Charlie in round 2. That could either be fun or a train wreck, but it should attract a lot of eyeballs.
He won't be winning anything until he starts serving a heck of a lot better. Also, the ankle rollover doesn't appear to be too serious for Charlie, he plans to be at practice on Sunday.

Meanwhile, another week on the ATP tour and another week of questionable umpiring decisions...To cut to the chase, Alex Michelsen fired a ball into the stands and struck a person and was not automatically defaulted. Shapo didn't hesitate to weigh in...
He should have been defaulted but being the final it would have been a terrible way to end the tournament and the presentations would have been super awkward. If it was in the early rounds I feel they may have defaulted him.
As Thiem embarks on his last US Open, I think it's a good time to remind people he was 5-2 against Federer and after losing his first 5 matches to Djokovic he went 5-2 against him after. A healthy Thiem and it's safe to say the slam totals of Nadal, Djokovic and Alcaraz would be different
