Default Should Treliving Acquire Iginla by Mar 1?

Lots of comments in the PGT tonight. Perhaps mods can add a yes/no poll to the discussion although I'd bet it would be 50/50 around here.

Should Treliving acquire Iginla if he can be had for cheap?

Would he fit on the 3rd / 4th lines, and PP time taking one timer feeds from Gaudreau?

Could his intangibles add some intensity to the playoff run and light a fire under the C of Red?

Would a piece of you die inside if Sakic doesn't find a trade partner and he has to end his career in last place Colorado?

It'd be a low cost add, so I wouldn't oppose it on that end.

I'm not sure how effective he is anymore, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be excited to see it happen. Don't think Iggy would want to come back though.

Yes and get Kipper out of retirement. Heck, Regehr too. He looked fine at the poker tourney.

Funny response, not personally.

It is funny because the while been there, done that idea is from when he was the go to guy. Fact is he fit in as not the man in, say, Boston.

If a guy knows his role and brings what he can bring (and I have watched him this year and have a realistic view on his upside and limitations) then the been there, done that goes in the round bin.

Iginla would want to go to a team that has a good chance at a Cup. That alone would eliminate the Flames.

I don't think I would hate it any longer - I actually have started thinking that he could fine a way to contribute. He doesn't have the legs any longer - he has decent speed, but I think it is his stamina that gives out. Limit his minutes - especially his shift length - and I think he would be 'fine'.

The real question is - would he be better than Chiasson? I answered 'no' at first, but I think he may actually supplant Chiasson just on performance. MAYBE. At the very worst, I think he would be another Chiasson offensively, but a lot smarter out there.

I would still very much rather the Flames get a gritty guy with speed, however, if grit is an area that Treliving is wanting to add to. I was 100% against adding Iginla, but I am 'fine' with it now. There may really be something to the whole 'Colorado really sucks monkey balls' and guys who should be putting up decent numbers are all pretty much sucking, and Iginla MAY just be symptomatic of that situation. At any rate, I hope he gets moved somewhere, and I will be really interested to see how he performs after that trade regardless of the team. Colorado may indeed be sucking the life out of every single player over there.

Does it? What if the teams that are considered contenders don't want him, or can't make the deal work.

Talk has been the Kings are a possibility but they're not even a lock to make the playoffs right now so that could be a risky choice. He may only have a couple teams to choose from that are in fringe playoff position. I think he'd rather be on a playoff team than run out what might be his final year on the Avs.

I'll say yes but preface it by saying only if Iggy wants to come back and the acquisition cost is low.

Bottom line for me is that Chiasson and Brouwer are borderline useless as of late.

Iginla couldn't be much worse in a bottom six RW role at even strength, and I'd definitely take him and his shot over Brouwer on the PP right now.

I'm fine if it doesn't happen, but Iginla's stats this year (just like everyone on his team) is effected by the tire fire that is Colorado. I think he has more left in the thank than his single season stats indicate this year on the worst team in the NHL. That's evidenced by even their star players bottoming out this season. No one on that team is making anything happen.

I think with the sentiment boost and his shot, he'd be an upgrade over Chiasson and could help the power play.

Nah. Iginla has tried that several times and most likely understands now that there are no sure things. He also isn't likely to have a lot of suitors so it's not like before where he has an option of top teams lined up.

Calgary is one of the hottest teams in the NHL in it's last ten games and the deadline is right around the corner. I think that's enough to generate some interest on his part.

Who have been his linemates in Colorado? His stats line this season is terrible, but I've seen a couple vintage one-timers in highlight reels which brought back all the memories.

Looking at the corsi numbers and whatnot he looks fairly middle-of-the-road, which is actually quite good relative to a lot of his teammates.

The argument is, where does he fit in the lineup? Realistically he's a slight upgrade on Chiasson on the 4th line. Even the Brouwer haters have to admit Troy, at this stage of his career, is more serviceable than Iggy. Frolik is obviously invaluable on Backlund's line. I've enjoyed Versteeg's game but he's expendable. Could Iggy raise his game to ride shotgun with Johnny & Mony?

So it comes down to: do you bring back a 39-year-old former captain, arguably the best player that's ever suited up for the club, to play mainly on the 4th line & PP? It would have to be for cheap, and I mean really cheap. But I'm a sap & I'd like to see it happen.

4th round pick or lower, with the Flames at least five points up on 9th place at the deadline? Yes.

I am in no way a Brouwer hater, I liked the signing.

But he has been "meh" personified this season as a whole and specifically as of late.

I would 100% prefer Iginla on the power play right now over Brouwer.
