I wonder why Trump wasn't included or do my eyes just fail me?

Quote:
Urging Senate to 'Ignore the Parliamentarian,' Sanders to Force Vote on $15 Minimum Wage Amendment
"I regard it as absurd that the parliamentarian, a Senate staffer elected by no one, can prevent a wage increase for 32 million workers."

Calling on the Senate Democratic majority to disregard the advice of the unelected parliamentarian, Sen. Bernie Sanders late Monday announced he will force a vote this week on an amendment to include a $15 minimum wage provision in the pending $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.

"At a time when millions of workers are earning starvation wages, when the minimum wage has not been raised by Congress since 2007 and stands at a pathetic $7.25 an hour, it is time to raise the minimum wage to a living wage," Sanders, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, said in a statement.

Sanders made clear Monday that he will continue pushing to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour if his coronavirus relief amendment fails to pass this week.
Shameless stole the reduced version of the article (the bit I quoted) reddit. Pretty neat, they have a bot on politics that reduces articles and summarizes them.

In a normal world, I wouldn't have to ask this... but when it says "Hogan", please tell me that's Hulk Hogan?

It might as well be Rock vs Hulk Hogan.

I assume it is the Maryland Governor though.

I really don't think there is any chance anyone on that list is the nominee. Maybe Noem or Hailey has found the sweet spot of crazy but not too crazy. Cruz and Pence will have their 10-20% votes, but I can't see either of them growing their support.

I had to follow the link to the slideshow, it's Larry Hogan. And the question was "If Trump doesn't run" so that explains his absence.

You know, simply knowing the US government is now credibly managing the Covid crisis and taking climate change seriously is enough for me.

The rest is theatre in another country - sucks to be them.

Orangesicle doesn't look like he's going anywhere. He adores standing in front of crowds and being praised. If he can get don jr to do all of the hard functional work and be "president" while sitting on the golden throne watching OAN and eating cheeseburgers all day, he will.

If Donald Trump is able to self fund another presidential campaign, I will be astonished.

He’s been cut off from Twitter and from his corporate support following the insurrection. He’s radioactive to everyone who’s not a crazy person.

Self fund? Trump made more money than he has in decades by campaigning and siphoning money off to himself. He probably can't wait to to tap into the bank accounts of rubes in another run.

Score one for the good guys. The replacement nominee will probably be some other corporate lobbyist/lackey, but we can rejoice for now at least.

He raised hundreds of millions of dollars to "stop the steal" and pocketed it all

It's funny that "stop the steal" was the actual theft.

I firmly believe Biden received so many votes not because of the love for him, but as a hate vote for Trump - not exactly an original opinion.

The problem for us who fear Trump wining again is... yes people will remember the Trump presidency in 2024, but voting on hate fades as time goes on, the base will not be as mobilized as people loose their passion. They may not support trump, but if they don't come out to vote, its pretty terrible (and some studies show the American election isn't about swing votes but actually about getting your base to come out in vote in high numbers)

However, the right will form their own protest vote against the Biden government based on talking points over the next 4 years. This tells me that Trump has a clear path to get the more votes in 2024 than 2020, while Biden has a high likelihood to get less than 2020. Enough to cover the margin? Who knows.

This all gets balanced by Biden's incumbent advantage which is huge (along with any over simplification of my past points), so Trump isn't a slam dunk win, but I strongly disagree he has no or even little path to victory in the general.

That said, I am extremely interested in the 2024 republican primaries- if gloves come off, it will be a so much fun to watch. Will candidates attack Trump for the riots? Grab some popcorn .

I doubt Trump could get more votes - those were historic totals - but neither will Biden or his successor. Without the extreme political conditions of a failed pandemic response and Trump’s chaotic record voting likely returns to more typical levels. It will still be highly partisan though and Trump would have an advantage there IMO.

And do you think he did that just to spend it on a failed presidential campaign?

He can’t tweet. He can’t get corporate support. He has legal fights opening up on multiple fronts.

He’s going to golf in his guilded cage, do some rallies here and there, and sometime between now and 2024, his heart is going to pop like a balloon, and that will be that.

But he had Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and probably Vine.

Bernie also isn’t a twice impeached insurrectionist who botched Covid so bad he caused more American deaths than WW2 in 11 months.

Do you see Trump organizing a massive door knocking campaign? I don’t.
