Wow, on a 3 year deal for a 35 year-old. Hope this blows up in their faces.

I am looking forward to this being a big fat cap hit.

I am totally fine with this, as I doubt Kovalchuk will provide value for his cap hit - especially for 3 years.

Kings are doing what they need to do - they keep supplementing their current (but aging core). There will be a day of reckoning, just a question of when.

Same thing for the Sharks.

Nah, the Kings are a disgusting team... kovalchuk might be allergic to hockey pucks in the next few years.

If the NHL allows Voynov back the Kings will also be adding a 20+ minute per night top 4 RHD in his prime as well this off season.

California teams depress me.

Reminder as a mutli year contract for a 35+ year old player. This contract counts against the cap even if Kovalchuk retires before it is finished or the Kings use a regular buyout.

Compliance buy out it is then.

Or some sort of rash.

Or some illegal contraband mysteriously shows up in his luggage as he tries to travel internationally.

A bit pricy - I would have expected 5.5 - 5.75M x 3Y, but I guess that means teams thought he was worth winnkng the bidding war. Really would have helped us; too bad.

Am I missing something? Don't they need to wait until July 1 to sign him?

What a shocker.

I think this will probably be an alright deal for the Kings.

$6 million is what you are going to pay for a guy who will likely put up 25+ goals a season.

Of course there is only downside risk here so the contract has potential to backfire.

$6 million is what LA pays for 25+ goals. Oilers pay 6 for 10.
