Our 6th Overall Pick: Elias Lindholm or Sean Monahan?
Since most people want to get that potential #1 centre with this pick, I wanted to know what CP's opinion on these two players. Though, there's a good chance we may not even have a choice, assuming both are available at 6, who do you take?
Elias Lindholm - a right-handed centre, very creative and offensively gifted, or
Sean Monahan - a jack of all trades type of centre, deemed by many as the best defensive forward in the draft
I realize a number of people on this forum want Nichushkin or Nurse, but I wanted to limit this to a discussion of the centres.
It would be nice if a mod could add a poll.

He's still a very gifted offensive player and from what I hear has rather incredible hockey IQ. It's not like he's the Regehr of forwards.
That said my vote is Lindholm, I strongly doubt he will be available at 6 tho.

Monahan. Anyone who draws comparisons to Toews get my vote.

I know very little of either player to be honest, and I won't pretend to know anything. From what I've seen (YouTube highlights) and read, I think I like Lindholm more
Lindholms stats and play in the Swedish Elete League at his age remind me of my favourite player, Petr Forsberg. It's truly impressive what he can do at the level he's played at

Lindholm, but he will be picked at #4 or #5... so we'll end up with Monahan, IMO.
EDIT : I always feel its important to mention, when discussing prospects, that I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.

Monahan for me. Strong IQ, great at face offs, big, two way game. That's the kind of center that is huge come playoff time.
Won't be sad if they pick Lindholm, but he looks a bit like Backstom to me. I've seen Backstrom in the playoffs.

Lindholm 100%. If he's gone before we pick then we have to take Monahan.

I don't know much about either one, but it was mentioned on tsn that Monahan plays on a very underskilled Ottawa team. Makes me wonder what his numbers would be like if he was playing in Halifax.

Lindholm definitely has more skill, but Monahan might be the better player without the puck. Hard to judge offensive IQ.

I think we take Monohan.
I think he'll be good.
At worst, i think we'd have a bigger, better faceoff langkow on our hands, wiht hopefully better offensive flair.

Monahan. I think his offensive abilities are being underestimated by a lot of people, and I think he's exactly what we need going forward. Obviously I'd be happy with Lindholm too though.

If the polar opposite is a one-dimensional offensive player like Sergei Kostitsyn (who has ZERO defense), I'd rather have a solid two-way centre (like Kopitar, Toews, etc.). There's nothing wrong with drafting a player who's good at defense.
