Icon48 If the Playoffs started today

So we are about 2/3s of the way through the season and playoff partners are being set. Where do things stand now?

Eastern Conference

1. Philadelphia Flyers vs 8. Montreal Canadiens
2. NY Rangers vs 7. Carolina Hurricanes
3. Buffalo Sabres vs 6. Ottawa Senators
4. Detroit Red Wings vs 5. Pittsburgh Penguins

Toronto and Florida sit just outside the race and are within 1 points of the final spot and the Islanders sit 5 points back. Any kind of streak whether wins or losses could mean in or out of the race.
Who do you like in the current match-ups?

Western Conference

1. Minnesota Wild vs 8. LA Kings
2. Anaheim Ducks vs 7. Colorado Avalanche
3. Edmonton Oylahz vs 6. Vancouver Canucks
4. Chicago Blackhawks vs 5. Arizona Coyotes

This Conference is still extremely tight and until recently where a few teams have put some distance between themselves and the bottom of the order. Nashville and San Jose could sneak up to 7th or 8th if they get on a hot streak, but that streak better happen soon. All of the others are on the outside looking in and need to get hot very soon or end up out. 6 pts seperate 2nd from 8th in the West, get out your shotguns its going to be a stagecoach ride!
What do you think about the west match-ups?

Now is the time to decide, am I in, or am I out, what are your chances of moving up 2 or 3 spots or falling out of the race?
Trade deadline is not far away.

If the playoffs started today, GM Crunch would be using Coach Nagurski's head as a golf ball.

If for any reason I end up playing Minny, it's all going 5-0-0 physical and my goons are taking the opening faceoff.

for the newbs out there. It is rare to come back from 5 points down or more and make the playoffs at this time of the year, especially if you have any team hopping to do.

When is the last day of play? My team has not been consistent at all, big runs of wins and losses. It could be a Days of Thunder situation, where I'm running at full speed while the rest of you dopes are waiting for the flag to drop!

As bad as we are, I like this match-up as we Philly likes to find ways to lose in the playoffs!

So Weird looking at a St Louis vs Wild series.

Our goals for goals against are nearly identical our differential is identical

Special teams, my power play is better then his, our penalty kill is slightly worse then his

I think he murders me on the forward side of things, but I like my blueline better. Goaltending I think he has it. If everything was normal, I think it would be a long series.

However I still have my doubts as to making the playoffs with San Jose with all of those games in hand.

Still for some reason like my matchup with the Wild. Don't get me wrong, that's a very good and talented team, but I think my blue line can match up well against them.

Rangers is an intriguing battle. I don’t like my chances in this matchup as they are rolling.

ya you def want the Flyers. They have been winning using smoke and mirrors. That would be a 4 game sweep for sure!

Silly wabbits...
The Devil's were my playoff kryptonite of years past. With them in the basement, the path appears clear.

Looking forward, the only other concern of weakness for me is my own ability to stay the course and not make any huge roster changes that may destroy the teams chemistry. And I have to practice that self restraint while there's some big names on the market, which is super tough right now.

I think, when Dumba and Ekholm returns we will be in fine form and ready for a deep playoff run.

- but that is said every. single. year.
