At the same time, we have missed out on top/other goalies who we have been rumoured to be interested in (Bishop, Fleury, Andersen).
What happens next? Do we go back with the tandem as this year? Do we go for one of the major UFAs available this year? It is expected to be a massive crop (Lehner, Markstrom, Holtby) . Do we trade for a goalie?
|
Jon Gillies is also a UFA.

Flames need to trade for Murray who is likely available or Georgiev who is also likely available. Have to trust the pro scouts though, and that is a scary proposition.
Both guys are young enough that if they work out the Flames will be off the goalie carousel for many years.

They're both UFAs, so there's no guarantee they stay where they are. The concern is that if they hold out for money and/or term, it will cost money and/or term to acquire either one (duh), and the Flames may not have the first and may not want to give the second.

No UFA goalie in their right mind is going to come to Calgary with how badly this organization treats the position.

For the third playoff in a row, the goalie who started all our playoff games is not our presumptive opening night starter for the following season.
That's not good.

Stand it like a man, and give some back.
Thanks for all your work on the ATLs.

Any goalie who is waiting for an opportunity to be a starter would love to come here.
The position is wide open for the taking.

Matt Murray is awesome, and we’d be lucky to have him.

What teams have the cap space and need for a top goalie?
Flames don’t have the space yet but I think they have the ability to free some up. I think a team looking for a new platoon partner would trade for Rittich which would free up his money.

To be honest, I think the new age nhl team structure calls for a team that has a strong forwards/defence and a solid, unspectacular, goaltending tandem.
Flames have far bigger holes that need focus/investment, than to try to find their next kipper.
The flames got exceptional goaltending these past 2 playoff years yet were easily knocked out of the first round. Fix the forwards/defence. Goaltending has been the least concerning part of the team, in my opinion.

It's a shame Reto Berra never panned out, if not for his nickname potential.
Arręt-o Berra was right there, you guys.

As I have mentioned in the other thread, the only hope that we will have a stud goalie is that if Dustin Wolf becomes the new MAF in a few years. At the meantime, it will be stopgap after stopgap...

Tonight's game is a perfect reminder that goalies are witches
Binnington was unbeatable last year, and carried his team to a cup
This year, he can't stop a beachball

Never get emotionally attached to a goalie. It's like falling in love with a model.
