This may be the euphoria of seeing hockey again talking, but while Minnesota may be a boring team at the Dome on a Tuesday night, they're pretty fun to watch on a Wednesday afternoon.

The crowd noise in the WAS/CAR game is much better then any from yesterday. I wonder if they have been tweaking it as they go for final product.

Does it seem to anyone else like the ice is much worse in Edmonton than it is in Toronto? Puck is bouncing all over the place.

If the Flames can't win the Cup (laugh) hopefully the Lightning do, IMO it would make them more likely to move some key pieces to gain some cap relief.

I think they're using these games as much for the broadcasters to figure things out as the teams.

Although, it seems like the "crowd" mix is left up to the individual broadcaster. I was looking at the highlights from the COL-MIN game and the difference is quite noticeable depending on whether it's the Colorado or Minnesota broadcast.

Once the actual playoffs begin and everything is either a Sportsnet or NBC broadcast, it should be more standardized.

Ovechkin scores again off a great play by Wilson, who just completely shrugged off Slavin like he wasn't even there before making a nice pass.

A friend of mine works on FIFA at EA and designed the system that NBC, the Premier League and La Liga is licensing for crowd noise. NBC is using the crowd noise assets from the NHL games. The operator has a mix of calm and excited crowd tied into an "anticipation" fader that they can ride up and down as the play evolves, and then dedicated triggers for short crowd reactions ("oooh" on a missed shot, etc). He likened it to learning how to play an instrument and thinks the operators will get way better at it with more practice.

That is kinda neat. I was fine with it last night, very subtle actually., just enough noise to make it feel like not an empty building. Found that reactions were missing at times. They should get better at it though.

Crawford starting for Chicago. That helps their chances against the Oilers.

Nope, apparently he's with the Lightning.

I would love an option not to have crowd noises at all. Just for one game to really hear the sound of the sport and not the spectators. There is something about the sound that comes from the power of steel cutting into the ice that exemplifies the high level that they play at and I think that hockey is the sport that would benefit the most from this. Even as an option for the online games it would be really interesting.

Also does anyone know if there would be an option for being able to select your own camera angles. I mean I know that for 99 percent of the fans this would never be something they would do, but the NHL has made a statement about how this will change the way we can watch the game at home, so who knows.

Having hockey back though is really nice.

Troy Brouwer... There's a name I didn't think I'd hear again.

I could do without the crowd noise...especially the cheer 5 seconds after a goal is scored. There are no fans and we all know why fake it? Just seems odd to me...we would get used to no crowd in one period or less IMO.

Not a deal breaker just my opinion

Chicago looking good so far after 1 period. I smell an upset coming.

Watch your backs, Oilers. You might just wake up with a dagger sticking out of it ... a Chelsea Dagger.

Saad from Toews opens the scoring in the CHI-STL game. Chelsea Dagger plays at Rogers Place for the first time (of many).

I'd love nothing more than for the Hawks to stun the cocky Oilers and their fans/media/etc. Sure it's just exhibition again, but Chicago's looking good.
