I took my skates to get repaired and they did an amazing job, only $42 and you can hardly see the repair.

Back when my dad was still alive and ran his own shoe repair shop in the BC lower mainland whenever he came to visit my brother or me in Calgary he would always drop in at Alpine Shoe Service and spend a few hours visiting with the owner. The brotherhood of a dying profession. I'm glad they're still around.

Awesome, When I took my skates in he wasn't going to do them. Said he didn't work on skates anymore. We chatted about his business and work he had done for me before (years ago). The more we chatted the more he touched my skates and looked at what needed to be done. Eventually after an enjoyable 20 minute chat, he said he could fix them.
Fast forward to picking them up. I was paying and his wife said to me "He must have liked you, because he doesn't work on skates anymore."
It seems he just wants to do business in a certain way. A way I enjoy.
Sadly you are correct he is a dying bread, which was a topic we discussed.

Joe (IIRC his name) in Lakeview was also a delightful man (and hopefully still is in his retirement).
Shoutout to Lakeview Florist as another quality local.

Another similar place is Done Right Sports Repair. Its at about 52nd street and 17th Ave SE.
Ive had my shoulder pads re-sewn there and a few hockey and duffel bags repaired.
They also do a great skate sharpen and have those equipment cleaning machines. I think they do jerseys and cresting and basically any sports related sewing or repair you can think of.
Its a great mom n' pop place that does some pretty quality work at very good prices.
They don't accept credit card, but still accept personal cheques. Old school!

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a recommendation for vocal lessons for a beginner? Preferably in the SE

The Blind Doctor east of Chinook. Fixed up/down blind for a reasonable price and the owners are a treat to talk with.
