Bold, right. He's an upgrade on the Djanko. And upgrades are what we should be reeling in right now.

Losing Hathaway, Talbot in for Smith. I think we're still at a net-loss for the off-season.

It's time for a win for the good guys here. And keep pace with the stupid Avs and Canucks.

Default Canucks to sign Ferland (4yrs, unknown AAV)

Lovely, another Pacific team gets tougher while the Flames stay softer than a pillow made of clouds.

Treliving is not having himself a year to remember here.

I've liked it quite a bit.

--It was a very strong July 1st because he didn't do anything.

--With respect to trades, he was, in my opinion, very close to hitting a home run with the alleged Nazem Kadri trade but failed for reasons beyond his control. The Jason Zucker trade, which didn't go through at the deadline, together with the failed Nazem Kadri trade, shows a pattern of Treliving trying to improve the team up front and doing that but for circumstances beyond his control.

--I liked the Flames draft a lot. It appears they got great value in rounds 3 and 7, and Pelletier's numbers suggest he is a very solid pick.

--I liked development camp because it showed Treliving recent drafting has been stellar, especially re: the later round picks where it appears Treliving et al. may have found some gems.

They're going to pay him an absurd amount, thinking back to when he dominated them in the playoffs 4? years back.

He is not that player anymore. He's acknowledged it... his body can't hold up (nobodies can).

This sucks. Not so much because it’s not with the Flames, but because I really like Ferland and there’s only two teams I can’t cheer for him on, and he has to go ahead and sign with one of them.

I suppose we may all just have to come to terms with our team (as it is now) being our team.

Or adding Maroon. Come to terms with that now too.

Not tougher. A little deeper. Remains to be seen how physical Ferland can be in a full season this dictating his effectiveness. I'm of the belief that he going to play about 50-60 games. His injuries last year are a big concern.

Yep, the reaction to not signing Ferland is the Flames probably sign Maroon and get even slower in an attempt to add some toughness. Ugly summer to this point. Really hope Treliving pulls something out of his ass here.

Yeah, it feels like he's probably the one we end up adding if we do sign a UFA..

Which will not move the needle as he's more or less serviceable roster filler, with the bonus of a bit of recent winning playoff experience. Replaces what you lose in Hathaway, I suppose.

Well, I hope he really cashes in on this contract. Hopefully it is absurd.

Will suck having him in our division and playing against him 4x a season. He is a bruiser who hits hard even if they are not highlight reel hits. Happy for him as he gets the security he was wanting. At least he gets to play against the Flames' divisional rivals more often.

If he wants to do the Flames a solid here to offset this poor decision just a bit, he can go knock McDavid on his ass every time he goes up against the clownshow.

4 x $3.5M is pretty good value for what he brings.

Damn.

Dammit.

That's a good deal. I would have loved the Flames to pay that

That's not a terrible deal. But by the same token it still feels incredibly risky.
