had a little work round of golf at elbow springs yesterday - nice day for it.

my first and last fourt holes were good, the middle ten, bad.....shot 107.

Really surprises me that for so many years I thought about golf a lot, wanted to play it a lot, wanted to go to the range - and now, I just find it ok. at the end of the day I felt somewhat "cheated" out of a day of riding my bike to work.....but don't get me wrong in that I appreciated the fact the boss thought to invite me out, along with feeding me and making sure I did not go thirsty.

I played it in September 2016 and it was $240, this year it is $300. To play around here it is $80 for a very average course so three or four times the price to play there is probably a little steep but not crazy steep. The views are second to none. It is a very cool experience for a golf guy. I guess it is worth the money if I'm going again, lol.

I mean, I've even requested yellow of four different top quality balls and he's been able to come through that week and is very flexible on time and locations for exchange.

You can get all the top stuff (prov1/prov1x/tour preferred etc) for $25 a dozen and then eventually discounts for quantity and repeat business. Also, I believe it's $15 for a lot of the mid range stuff.

Best round of my life on Tuesday at Heritage, finally shot under par and broke 70, with a 69. My playing partners didn't speak to me the last six holes once I got to 3 under, didn't want to jinx me, great day...

Keep it clean, Dion. We don't want to know about you dreaming of a 69.

Congrats! It is quite the feeling to walk off the course with a six score!

Now, are you prepared for your game to immediately go to shat??? It never fails. You go low, then your next few rounds you struggle to find the club face. Keep grinding away and look forward to your next sixty-something!

Got to play twice this weekend.

D'Arcy Ranch on Saturday. Place is absolutely perfect. Definitely warrants the plug it got in the Score Golf Top 59 public courses recently. Pace was great, finished in under 4 hours.

Lynx Ridge today. Course is very lush and has the best bunkers in the city. Greens are absolute ####. Recently punched, very bumpy and very slow. Not sure what went wrong but it looked like they were punched and not top dressed, most greens had huge holes and nothing in them. Must have run out of sand. I'd suggest avoiding until labour day.

Wow seriously? Labour Day is a month away. If I was a member there and had to putt on sh*t greens for a month, I'd lose it.

They punched, top dressed, and then it rained Really messed things up.

Usually it takes 10 days to return to normal.. It's been 7 days and they're still pretty bad.

Anyway, 40-39-79 today at Lynx Ridge Index is down to 8.1

Riverside last night - course is my favourite value play in the valley. Paid $40 can't go wrong. Short but very nicely maintained and doesn't see a ton of traffic from my experiences there.

Copper Point tomorrow. I'm sure it will be the same script as usual. Hold a good score until the first 4 holes on the back. Very tough stretch of holes.

Played Nanton on the way home from vacation today for the first time. No one in front the entire round and two guys who each had their own cart ripped through on the back. Great night. Really cheap. It cost me and the wife and our two boys $178 with cart. The greens were not like my home course and it took a little while to get the courage up to hit the putts to the hole. I ended up shooting 47-42 from the back. I'd play the course again.

For those of you hoping (like myself) that Mickelson National will finally bring the Canadian Open to Calgary, it's looking like more of a longshot after comments made by the new head of Golf Canada:

Quote:
After formalizing the tournament’s return to Glen Abbey GC in 2018, and suggesting an end-of-year announcement about 2019 (possibly Glen Abbey again or maybe Hamilton G&CC, which hosted its first Canadian Open in 1919, but is apparently seeking a larger cash guarantee than last time around in 2012), Applebaum was asked about the possibility of the tournament once again moving around the country to cities such as Vancouver, Calgary or Montreal.

“We are really happy in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area),” Applebaum stated after a preamble about embracing the passion fans across Canada have for the tournament.

The reason for a GTA location is largely economical, with the tournament struggling to make money when it moves away from Canada’s largest centre. While the event ran a small deficit in Vancouver in 2011, it lost a whopping $1.2 million in Montreal in 2014 due chiefly to poor attendance. It stands to reason that RBC isn’t in the business of losing money.

With Glen Abbey owner ClubLink Corp wanting to develop the Jack Nicklaus-designed course into homes and retail shops in the near future — i.e. as soon as it can gain approval to do so — to cash in on a sky-high real estate market, where in the GTA the Canadian Open will go is the question. Golf Canada’s plan is to create a new public facility — perhaps in partnership with other national sports federations — that will replace Glen Abbey as a permanent venue. As such, the governing body is currently looking at sites around Toronto — three in particular with an apparent clear leader in Vaughn — to accomplish this.
https://scoregolf.com/blog/jason-log...canadian-open/

In my opinion, a national open should move around and showcase the best courses our country has to offer. This continual hosting at Glen Abbey or another bland permanent GTA venue in the future makes for boring golf and hurts the tournament overall.

The sponsorship excuse is ridiculous. The Shaw Charity Classic has been hugely successful in attracting sponsorship, attracting a great field, and drawing PGA Tour size crowds over the past four years. Having attended a number of tour events, I think that Golf Canada does a relatively poor job of organization, which leads to poor sponsorship and attendance figures.
