Rangers also get a 3rd rounder in the deal.
Basically, getting both Vanek and Filppula in free agency surprised me and made my cap calculations go out of the window
But it also gave me enough potential top 6 players to allow me to move out my most expensive top 6 forward for depth players and clear a bit of cap space. With Henrique, Söderberg and Filppula, I'd probably have had to shift Little to the wing anyway, which would have been a bit of a waste given his FO rating.
The way I see it, it's Brown for Andrighetto; Borgman for Davidson; and Coleman+Karlsson+St Ivany+3rd for Little. Brown is a minor upgrade over Andrighetto, but the latter is in the AHL right now and gives the Isles flexibility. Borgman is a minor downgrade on the backend, but should have a bit more upside. The Isles obviously got the best forward in the deal, but Coleman upgrades my bottom 6 and the prospect/pick influx is good to have. Think Scorp did well here to get the best player, but it just made sense for me from a cap standpoint.
Thanks for the talks Scorp.
