I really hope so. I like Kuzmenko, but the thought of giving him a longer extension into his thirties is very frightening.

Optimize his usage and flip him for a maximum return.

Mantha as well, for that matter.

I realize Kuz plays slow. I believe he was 2nd worst in speed burst per 60. Only trailing Perry. That said, when I watch him play he doesn't look that slow, especially when attacking. He just becomes slower when he's defending.

He had at least 5 breakaway goals with the Canucks. Most of them were him sneaking behind the D, but that's still a pretty high number for one of the slowest players in the league.

NHL Edge skating stats for Kuzmenko, to add to the discussion.

Kuzmenko was 100% a cap dump and getting any value out of him at the deadline is pure gravy. The truth is, scoring wingers are just not worth that much at the deadline, especially if they're 50-60 point wingers.

If he has a fantastic season, I can see him getting a 2nd and 3rd round pick at the deadline. If he's at 30 points in 60 games at the deadline, you're more likely just waiting for his contract to expire, give a young guy a shot in his spot and move on. A 1st would be an ideal scenario. People thinking Kuzmenko is a lock to get us a 1st or 1st+ at the deadline are probably a bit too optimistic.

A 2nd and 3rd equivalent value for Kakko? You do that no question. NYR are going to add? Be my guest lol.

Calling him a cap dump isn't offensive, I don't know why some get so bent out of shape about it. Sean Monahan wss a cap dump to Montreal too and he turned it around

Until the trade, the locals would have been happy with a bag of pucks. He essentially had negative value.

He most certainly was part of the trade to even out the money.

If their team MVP doesn’t get injured they probably ride their rentals deep into the cup final and maybe win. They got rid of a problem contract for pretty comfortably the best rental center to move at a deadline in years.

All at the cost of a 3rd rounder a year ago, a late first, and some spare parts.

Trading for rentals will look bad when it doesn’t work but that was about as good of a trade for a rental as there’s been.

Even without hindsight that's wild. I swear some people use their opinions as attention seeking.

At the time of the trade Brzustewicz was 2nd in the CHL for D scoring, that's a tough asset to throw away no matter where he was drafted, scouts loved Jurmo, Kuzmenko is the most talented scoring winger I've ever seen as a cap dump and a 1st is a 1st. Pouting and disinterested Lindholm had 9 goals 23 assists.

I was starting to think a 1st and a real cap dump to make the trade work would be good for the Flames, to give Vancouver an A+ was crazy talk IMO.

Rating that trade an A+ for anyone other than the Flames is crazy.

The Canucks got hosed without hindsight and now with hindsight they got spanked.

Untrue, I gave both the Flames and Canucks the same grade for that deal: an A. I thought the Canucks did well in getting ahead of the market for arguably the top centre available; Calgary did pretty much as well as they could've, although I wasn't quite sure how Kuzmenko would fit.

I’ve always been a quality over quantity person so the “5 pieces” that was always bragged about wasn’t as impressive as I thought everyone made it sound. At the time, it seemed even to me. Obviously with hindsight, the Flames look better off even if I’m not high on the late pick or Jurmo at all.

Good call Scorp, but hindsight gives the Canucks an F

Lindholm hadn't played well for a year and a half, a team giving up that kind of package should have known this, Canucks deserved a C then and an A only if they won a cup, the Flames deserved an A+ for not giving into his salary demands based on his play with Gaudreau and Tkachuk and getting nice assets for him.

Time will show there's one winner and two losers in the Lindholm saga, you take your pick out of Vancouver, Calgary and Boston. I know my choices.

Kuzmenko doesn't need to be fast. His entire game is based on being below the ringette line...similar to the latter part of last season, let Kadri and Pospisil play to their strengths and carry the puck, gain the zone, open space, etc. for him.

The trade is now Elias Lindholm for Andrei Kuzmenko, Hunter Brzustewicz, Joni Jurmo, Matvei Gridin, Luke Misa and Eric Jamieson.

Depending on what they get for Kuzmenko (if anything), it's one for six.
