This election gives new meaning to "stuck between a rock and a hard place".

A good read about Redford and why people hated her.
Wow - talk about extreme hyperbole and straw-man arguments (not to mention a few outright false statements - a single glass of wine won't put someone's blood alcohol over 0.05). I'm pretty neutral to Redford and haven't really been impressed by the job she's done so far, but Lorne Gunter comes across as a raving lunatic in that article.

Plenty of good reasons to be unhappy with the PCs or Redford, but that article is a joke and I am ashamed to live on the same planet as the author.

"A former managing editor of the now defunct Alberta Report, Lorne Gunter began his journalism career there"
The start of Gunter's bio, and the context in which to read his writings.

CBC is doing their vote compass for the provincial election:

You can say that about every election that ever was on this planet.

Last time they did that Federally, we all turned out to be Liberal supporters.

Meanwhile, first release from Redford and PC's

http://www.votepc.ca/admin/contentx/...fm?itemid=2256

I hope they don't feel prostitution is the top issue for Albertans.

The problem with Redford is she likes pushing her agenda. Who cares about 0.05 law or bawdy house definition during election? It is the least on people's mind comparing to, say, the inevitable introduction of Alberta Sales Tax by the PC if they stay in power.

I don't think its a top concern, but I don't really want to see a red-light district in Calgary either. Pretty interesting quotes from Smith in that release.

I couldn't pay attention after this line.

Ms. Redford has been Premier for nearly six months without having been elected to the job.
I know it seams that way, but that's not mandatory and/or fundamental in our current form of government. If the author can't understand some of the basics of the Canadian Parliamentary system, then it's going to be hard to take the rest of his crazy with a grain of salt.

A little context might be interesting. Why wouldn't they include a link to the article that they pulled those quotes from?

Context? In what context does advocating for the legalisation of prostitution mean anything different? I thought that the line about creating a red-light district was pretty obvious and probably doesn't need context. You're either in favour of legalized prostitution or against it.

Interesting to me that it actually kind of supports those who claim the Wildrose is more libertarian then you would think. Old-Time religion, 'Calgaryborn' types would crucify her on this issue and it might actually be part of Redford's strategy. It disturbs me though that the PC's are engaging to compete with the Wildrose for the social conservative vote. We need less provincial political pandering to this segment of society, not more.

I'd like to know why she felt prostitution was a concern. It's possible that she just came out to the press one day and decided to tell them that we should legalize prostitution, but I imagine it's much more likely that she was responding to questions about specific issues with prostitution in Calgary (ie-drug use, as was implied by one of the quotes).

Since they are nearly 9 years old, I would like to see the context. Was this DS as a Herald writer? Or in a different role?

BTW prostitution is already legal in Canada. It's living off the avails that is illegal.
Either way, not a prime provincial issue in my mind.

Big surprise, the default position is PC.

It put me as right of the Wildrose and more socially conservative. I guess if you don't think taxes should be raised and if you don't want to waste money on bilingualism that makes you a rabid right winger.

I hope this doesn't sound crazy, but has anyone else noticed how the provincial PC party has added orange to their traditional blue? Why on earth would they do that? Are they trying to look like the Oilers?

I am really hoping Bruce Mcallister takes the Chestermere-Rocky View area. Great guy, who actually lives in this riding.

I just want to know why it would matter where she said this? If she wrote it for a Herald article then it doesn't count? That's a good try. The reality is that she's in favour of a red-light district. Its not exactly twisting her words here.

I do agree that this is a minor issue in the grand-scheme. Its far more interesting how the PC's are coming out here though, as Cowboy89 pointed out.

I didn't end up PC on that scale, so maybe you really should be voting PC?
