Monahan built lasting legacy beyond the ice in Calgary

Monahan even went to one of Mason’s minor hockey games and gave the kids a pep talk.

“He was super awesome about meeting anybody who walked up to him and wanted a picture or an autograph with him,” Jenn said. “He was super patient and talked to all the kids and was super involved in watching the game. He kept saying to my husband Diego and I, ‘Man, I miss this. This brings back so many memories for me. I just absolutely love it.’”

Monahan was involved in the community in other ways as well. He was an ambassador for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, hosted bingo nights and other events for the Ronald McDonald House, and visited patients in hospitals.#

Former teammates also applaud Monahan for his character and toughness. He was unable to play in the playoffs for Calgary last season because of his second hip surgery, and has battled several injuries throughout his career.

Habs coach St. Louis excited for return to where his career began

St. Louis was never selected at the NHL draft despite being a two-time Hobey Baker finalist as the top player in U.S. college with the University of Vermont. The Ottawa Senators were the only NHL team to even offer the 5-foot-8 St. Louis a tryout after he graduated from Vermont in 1997 and then cut him. The Flames signed St. Louis as a free agent on Feb. 19, 1998, but he only played 69 games over two seasons with Calgary, posting 4-16-20 totals.

The Flames left St. Louis unprotected for the 2000 expansion draft, but the Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild weren’t interested in him. The Flames then decided to release St. Louis and he signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent on July 31, 2000.

Canadiens at Flames — Five things you should know

Head coach Martin St. Louis said he hasn’t decided who will start in goal Thursday, but the smart money says he’ll go with Sam Montembeault. While St. Louis gave a vote of confidence to Jake Allen prior to the San Jose game, the fact is Montembeault is the No. 1 with a 5-2-1 record and a .924 save percentage, which is No. 5 in the NHL.

Blasty Night!

Huge game to night for sure. Potential SCF matchup.

All of the town wants to know, who gets the start in the cage tonight

Habs have been sneaky good this year. Not great, but good. They got worked by San Jose a few nights ago and will be looking to come out strong.

This would be a classic trap game for Flames teams of the past. Let's hope that's not the case tonight.

Monahan's been great, nice to see him skating pain free out there. Not sure which team will show up, they've followed up bad games with good ones usually, so the Flames had better be ready for them. Caufield and Suzuki are a treat to watch.

Who gets the start in net tonight is the big question IMO.

I hope Vladar gets the start. He’s been great for the most part in net and deserves some more starts as a reward.

Flames are better on paper but they basically have the same record so there is no reason to take them lightly

Montreal has had the second or third easiest schedule in the league thus far so far so that should make Flames big favorites

Flames are big favourites despite almost identical records...check the odds

I know you and others are going to call me out everytime the Flames lose to a "bad" team but I am not saying they will win them all just that they will win at a higher rate.

Every single poster on this board will agree that Flames will beat bad teams more than good teams over the long haul. The odds favor the Flames because they are considered the better team and playing at home. They were considered better at the start of the season before SOS ever became a factor and not much has changed yet.

I don't plan on calling anybody out when the Flames lose. That is pathetic. Some people just want to look at the actual math behind the impact of SOS, that is all.

I asked Sean Monahan if he was excited to return to Calgary and he said that he was.

I found Sutter’s praise for Monahan yesterday quite awesome. He said Monahan was captain material, and that if he was one of the guys signed long term with Calgary… He also added that it was too bad he never got a healthy Monahan playing for him and that he is very coachable. High praise indeed!

I’m glad Monahan is doing well and so is MTL, but I have no regrets about the trade. Hopefully he gets a huge ovation and the Flames get a big 2 points. Finally, what’s the over under on Monahan scoring tonight?
