Is this Markstrom next year? Is anyone here a Kings fan and seen how Cal’s game has dropped? Physical? Mental? Inconsistency? Pretty big choice to drop a player in the middle of an expensive contract.

I'll take a 3-2

9-8 is just stupid...that many goals is because of poor play more than anything else

Yeah how many truly consistent goalies have there been in the last decade?

In the last 10 years there have been 9 different Vezina winners. Only Bobrvosky has won it more than once.

In that same period of time there have been 20 different Vezina finalists (by my count, which i did manually but I think it's right or close to right)

In the last 4 years, there have been 10 different Vezina finalists. Only Vasilevskiy has been nominated more than once. If you go back 5 years only two (add Hellebuyck) have been nominated more than once.

So much variation from year to year. Deciding whether or not to committ to a tender must be very difficult.

I would say right now the #1s i would count on going forward, with high confidence, would be Shesterkin, Hellebuyck, Vasilevskiy, and Oettinger.

That's it. That's the list.

I like me a good 5-3 game, with an empty netter.

Shocking. Being a goalie is hard.

Increase scoring / make goalie equipment smaller / make the nets bigger. Then we can finally see who is a good goalie and who is good at standing around and letting the puck hit them.

There is no such thing as a Vezina "nominee".

A team can also unilaterally terminate a contract if the player is in breach, e.g. if Petersen clears waivers, the Kings assign him to the AHL, and he refuses to report, they can suspend him without pay and put him on unconditional waivers for the purposes of terminating his contract.

I often think of Ken Dryden and the equipment he wore back then. He had to make some acrobatic saves to keep the puck out of the net. Today he could just stand there and cover the whole net with what goalies wear today,

I'd add Ilya Sorokin to that list, but yep.

It's the 1st year of this deal, really weird for a GM to admit he's so wrong on a player he waives him after 10 games played and being in a PO spot. I wonder if he's clearing space to add a big ticket, Kane to LA?

Unless he gets picked up, and he won’t, they won’t save much cap space by sending him down.

I think this is more about getting another goalie who might stop a puck than about cap space.

It's important to remember we are talking about Cal Petersen here and not an established starting goaltender. GAA is more of a team stat but his SV% was .895 last season so the reality is that he projects as an average backup goaltender and nothing more.

I think scoring is in a pretty good spot right now. This guy Petersen is getting waived because his save % is 0.869.

Martin Brodeur rates the 3 top goalies in the league now as Vasy, Shesterkin, Sorokin. Only Canadian goalie worthy of mention in the future is Carter Hart. Scary thought if the Olympics were this year and Binnington was one of our 3 goalies.

I'd go Darcy Kuemper, Logan Thompson, Carter Hart for Canada. Not amazing but the rest of the squad will be so stacked it wouldn't matter too much

You seriously think any NHL game would even have an over under line of even 8.5 at the start of the game. duh
