Don’t they have the same issues now? Sure your options are reduced vs a full new draw but you could still be in a totally different location if you finish 1st ca 2nd in the group.
Or no location at all if you don’t qualify.
Contingency planning will always be a required for the knockout rounds.
I think they kind of keep those two options close not a full draw across the country.

They showed the angle where the camera is right on the line, and it definitely looks like it stayed in.
Not over the line for sure, the overhead angle is the best one, the closer in look at an angle does not give an accurate view. Glad they made the right call.
It's also flying we're talking about, a 2 hour flight or a 3 hour flight isn't gonna be much of a big deal. Driving or trains would be different. But we also saw England tank into the easier path in 2018, it'll keep happening as long as you know where you're going. Plus, it'd be way more fun right now if instead of knowing they'll be getting Morocco, Spain had to sweat it out that they may get France or Brazil. In that scenario no doubt they'd be going all out for the win at the end instead of playing like they were up 5-0.

I think most people would love a knockout stage draw with 2 pots of the first place and second place teams; only issue is you'd potentially run into teams with 1 day of rest playing teams with 3 or 4 days of rest.
You'd need a week off for teams to rest and handle all the logistics.

Too bad for Canada, hopefully they learn for 2026. If not for the missed Davies penalty versus Belgium and their keeper blowing it today they could have gone through. The margins are so tight at this level.
That Germany Costa Rica game was crazy. Both teams having a chance to advance at one point only to both fail. Hopefully Spain gets quickly eliminated after their performance. Same for France who tried, but failed, to screw over Australia.

It's too bad Canada couldn't get a victory in the tournament, but I really do believe Canada is a soccer country on the rise and that this isn't going to be a one-off.

I think this tournament is showing how much the gap has closed between the lower ranked teams and the higher ranked teams. While the rankings are not incredibly accurate, countries like Belgium and Germany still have excellent teams. So, when you see Canada or Costa Rica hold their own against them it just shows how much more parity there is now compared to say 15 years ago.

Herdman was a loser not shake hands after the Croatian match. Not a good look.
Did there actually end up being any truth to the hand shake thing? I thought Herdman was out on the field for a while after the whistle. I didn’t look like he ran down the tunnel to the locker room or anything like that.
lots of learning to do, and the gap is big at this point, but I really think that the grassroots of soccer in Canada is going to reap the benefits of this appearance and continue to grow the game.
Its taken a long time for an actual 'pathway' to a career in soccer to be carved out. With the CPL and MLS now established, good athletes may choose to stay in soccer instead of switching to other sports with more established or traditional routes to a pro career.
Hoping the program keeps their heads up and keep working for 2026

And they may be more willing to declare for Canada versus other options.

Team came back hard. Sure Morocco sat back. Borjan with an inexcusable play and touch and not being big on the second goal.
Have to take your chances in the WC. Tie vs Belgium and today's game and even the Croatian game would've had a different mentality.
Need a stronger midfiled, plain and simple. Not sure where that will come from but it cost us the Croatian game and having that control would've given is better distribution to our abover average wingers and forwards.
Herdman has to be back for 2026 or we will regress.
Proud of all the players, the Belgium game stings for what should and could've been.
