that is soooo monny... lol

I would rather have Lucic on the team for the playoffs than Monny. We need to be physical in the post season.

To me that's just silly. Only one of those guy's can still play at the NHL level, and it's Monahan. Lucic is a massive net negative at this point in his career - and what he can provide in a positive way comes off of the ice.

Hopefully Monahan can dress tonight..

He is never healthy so how can he play?

You tell those NHL dmen Lucic is a negative when he is bullrushing them to the end boards...

So, let me see if I have this right:

Prior to the second round of the 2022 playoffs Markstrom had played 11 seasons and 399 NHL games. He had faced 11,653 shots, and only NOW the rest of the League has "figured out his glove hand is weak." After having video of nearly 12,000 shots in over 22,000 minutes of game action, NHL coaches ONLY JUST NOW figured out something new about Markstrom's glove hand.

Brilliant NHL coach says: "Say, I know that we have literally hundreds of hours of video of Markstrom in game-action, but how about—for a change—let's shoot high glove side?" It's genius!!

Do you think this stuff through even a little bit before posting?

and do you evaluate the relevance of your past markstrom love affair to the current season before posting ?

whether he took a bat to the hand or something else its undeniable that this season it is not on the level it had once been

you might think you're shutting down people questioning the player with your stats grab but the fact is you're arguing for a player who is playing like a shell of his former self . if he was the same player this year no one would be questioning it

he might have 2 games this year where he was old markstrom from start to finish .. not the same player to this point

Well it's either that or Markstrom's getting worse?

I mean, I don't know what happened in the Edmonton series, but they seemed VERY booked up on Markstrom and put a lot of shots on that glove side and we were all a little astonished how it just kept happening, no?

I have no idea what's going on with Markstrom, but that series left a deep impression, and this year hasn't changed that impression much. That mid-height glove side shot is ... not his specialty.

Ah, yes. My famous and well documented "Markstrom love affair."

He averages just over two hits a game.
He has no fights on the season.
He has no goals on the season.
He has one goal in his last 80 NHL games.
He leads the forward core in minor penalties taken with 8.
He's last on the team in drawn calls with 0.
He leads the team in giveaways per 60.
He's been outscored at even strength for six consecutive seasons.
He analytically the worst forward on this team.

I think teams look forward to Lucic jumping over the boards these days.

Unless of course this is something new? He has been having gloveside issues since late last season. Nagging injury, yips, confidence...who knows, fact is for whatever reason he appears to be weak gloveside.

I think most of what Markstrom is struggling with is in his head—that's usually what happens with goalies. The "weak glove hand" argument is a perception that is propped up by a lot of anecdotal reflection in hindsight. I don't know off hand, but I expect you will discover that every NHL goalie will allow a lot of high-gloveside goals. We tend to remember most of them because they are pretty spectacular, and they go in a lot, on everyone.

Who knows what happened with him. Maybe just got older and reflexes aren’t what they once were. Maybe we can just blame our goaltending coaches again or it truly is something mental and Edmonton really broke him. We really don’t know anything other than that he’s sucks really bad right now. Maybe he recovers maybe not but they can’t play current Markstrom as starter with Vladar playing so much better. Yes they’re paying him six million dollars and if not for that he likely wouldn’t be the starter now.

And I’m sure Markstrom doesn’t need the constant white knighting. I’m sure he sleeps well with that six million no matter how much he sucks in the net.

It's difficult to put in to words the joy I experience watching one of those Lucic moments where he pinballs around the other teams end knocking everyone over. All while the live feed on Reddit fills with "Lucic ####ing Neanderthal, hows this #### even fair?" Hahahaha it warms my heart.

I guess we will see how the season plays out, but I am pretty confident I know who will be starting for the Flames in Game #1 of the playoffs.

Sutter has put a lot of faith in him and given plenty of starts to work his way out of it .. and he hasn't

I don't think the criticism is premature any more at this point

if it is between the ears then its time to send him to the sports psychologist and give vladar more of a workload since he is playing well . Jacob is welcome to bust the door down and take back some starts when he gets his chances

this is a franchise in a business of winning , not an echl club where we rehab broken goalies
