He is definitely elite.

I'm not sure I'm willing to call him elite, while here or in Florida now. He's got a unique skillset, similiar to Marchand. Marchand is more a scorer so I'd call him elite in his prime. Tkachuk has shown he's out for himself and can go long stretches without scoring. The jury is out on him. A lot of mediocre goaltenders in that division, save their own and Tampa obviously. He's also an egomaniac, so just wait until he melts down without thinking straight.

Oof Bob is so bad. That contract is going to single handedly sink their cup aspirations.

I really thought Tkachuk's 100 point year was a one time thing with Gaudreau and Lindholm propping up his totals. He had what appeared to be an outlier of a hot streak to finish off last year with 38 points in his final 20 games. The other 62 games he was only just over a PPG last year, and I fully expected him to revert to the mean.

But with his start to the year in Florida, he's actually now put up 67 points in his last 41 regular season games. He's been on this tear for half a season now, and it projects to 134 points over a full 82 games. In that same time he's behind only McDavid, who has 72 points in his last 41 games.

Huberdeau seems to have lost some confidence. He treats the puck like a hot potato and doesn't know what to do with it when he gets it. If he has some open ice he can still make the plays he used to make but he can't seem to find any open ice with the Flames.

I think the trade was excellent in the circumstances.

The potential boondoggle is the contracts that were signed afterwards.

If the Flames can't get better value out of those for at least the next 3 years, they're basically the new San Jose.

whimpers

we cant afford another neal/lucic contract while we harbour those contracts .. we simply cannot

the gm will have to be very calculated and acquisitions well scouted

Have patience. Huberdeau will figure it out. It takes time. Fully expect Huberdeau to have a much different Games 42-82 than Games 1-41.

Tkachuk is a lot better than most people here giving him credit for. People said he will never score 100 again. That’s true 100 would be too low for him lol

Huberdeau and Weegar have been a huge disappointment. Barely justify their current contract let alone the new one. I don’t even remember one game that Huberdeau dominated and he is supposed to be the best player EVERY game. Thanks to Stone, Weegar is not the worse dman on the team. Dude is making bad decisions every game without contributing any offense

Tkachuk hasn't even hit his full prime yet either. He literally just turned 25 today. Next season is gonna be even more crazy.

There’s no point moping over Tkachuk. He didn’t want to stay and the Flames weren’t going to get a better deal.

The correct move would have been to blow the team up and trade every possible vet including Huberdeau and Weegar, but because this is the Flames that was never going to happen.

On the plus side, the Flames contracts are so bad they should naturally be in tank mode in 4-5 years. And because the contracts are so awful, the Flames will have to suffer through several bad years while collecting top picks. So they could have a very good young core in a decade or so…
