Wow, first I have heard of this shooting.
To me it was like the cop/shooter was playing a game of Simon says.

Wow, that is one of the saddest videos I've ever seen. Which says a lot because I'm usually pretty desensitized to this stuff.
These cops were extremely unreasonable. I get that this is a tough situation but it seems like this could've been avoided if they communicated more clearly and calmly.
The way they acted makes it seem like they either wanted to shoot him or were completely terrified of someone who was not only heavily intoxicated but begging them to not shoot because he was scared.

by the way the officer barking the orders is actually different from the officer who shot him. His name is Langley apparently and he has retired and moved to the philipines (fled?). Dont know how true this second part is but its was said by a poster on reddit

I am not an officer so I do not know standard protocol for these situations. Would it not have been easier to arrest the suspect while he was sprawled on the ground? If the suspect was heavily intoxicated or under the influence, his motor skills would have been affected making his movements awkward or unpredictable. Which seems to be the reason why he was shot.

Interesting timing. I just finished listening to a Supreme Court podcast episode that defined a “reasonable officer” in the eyes of the court.
But it has had an unintended consequence of protecting police based on singular moments in time.
So, the question that gets posed to a jury is: in the moment where the officer is making the decision to fire, are they acting reasonably based on what they feel is happening at that singular moment? In this case he sees a man putting his hand to his side and feels that is an opportunity to grab a weapon. So he fires.
The problem is the actions of both cops before the moment of fire. That was the unreasonable action, and in my mind, is just cause for conviction.

It's crazy to witness a murder on YouTube like that. Although the cop has been acquitted, it clearly is murder. The United States of America is a very sick country

At the very least this is a monthly occurrence in the U.S. and its usually black males who are the victims.
I was hopeful after the Walter Scott shooting conviction that that would be a catalyst for change and police accountability.
Unfortunately that one instance of justice was probably just an anomaly.

Yup. That's manslaughter.
If they were regular cops, why were they outfitted like they were taking on isis single handed?

The way that cop talks to the victim, like a condescending prick, is exactly the type of guy I can see wanting to join the police force. The job definitely attracts some real head cases.

Because that is the US now. It's sadly becoming a more racist, militaristic ****hole by the day. I truly hope they can salvage something as a country, that the good people can shine through and take something back. But I don't see it happening at this point.
