Icon45 HNIC: Nylander officially on the trade block

per HNIC

Leafs have started asking teams to start preparing formal trade offers

priority is for the Leafs to sign him and may be prepared to give him the Pastrnak contract

Really not a guy Calgary needs.

Offense isn't an issue with this club, but keeping the puck out of the net and giving up grade A chances are. Nylander simply doesn't fill any of the needs of the team.

I'd rather pay assets for another guy who can play centre at a high level, if a forward at all. This team needs to prioritize on a goaltender.

The Flames are 17th in 5v5 goal scoring rates and 22nd in PP goal scoring rates. They've had more PPs than the average team and they've been quite fortunate in empty net situations both ways, but I am pretty sure a guy like Nylander still fills a real team need as Lindholm is still our only point-producing RHS.

Nylander's expected contract does make him unviable though.

What's the signing deadline for him to be eligible to play this season? December 1?

We’re 8th in GF/GP. That’s plenty good enough.

You want to give this era's Doug Gilmour to the leafs again?

Bet he goes to Carolina. They have all the bits the Leafs would want. Bet they'd take Viktor Rask back too on top of one of their D men.

Get er' done.

Pretty much cripples Calgary's defensive depth. That's one way to make sure this team doesn't achieve any long term success.

Apparently the Canes have been shopping Zykov. I don't think the Leafs want to take on a lot of salary so I am betting on Zykov+Pesce for Nylander

But...But I wanted Zykov. Damn it. Either way. Nylander to the Canes makes the most sense.

More importantly, he’s holding out for well more than Gaudreau is making.

Doesn’t fill a need but also wants to be the highest paid player on the team.

Would love to add but the money doesn't work. No way in hell you can keep him and Tkachuk without moving Gaudreau or Giordano. Then that still doesn't leave much for a goalie

Bring the Calgary kid home!

Knowing Tre, he'll kick tires at least and see what is there. Probably already has. Not sure if we have the assets (or more appropriately, are willing to give up the assets) to get him.

The eventual return might be a little less than Leafs fans will be happy with.

Based off of teams that

a. Need high end top 6 talent
b. Have high end young defensemen to trade (Presumably what Toronto wants)
c. Can fit a contract greater than $7,000,000

The teams that have all these and are the best fit, in my opinion:
Carolina
Anahiem
Philadelphia
Nashville
Columbus

(maybe)
Colorado
Buffalo
Minnesota
New York Rangers
