This is not a Treliving problem. This is the state of a hard-capped NHL with guaranteed contracts..

Well except for the trade deadline. Lots of moves there obviously. Treliving has done well when auctioning off assets at the deadline and getting Stone was a solid move at the time.
Last year’s deadline was pretty uninspiring.

Could you imagine if we had a proper GM? All Tre has proven is he is good at signing RFA's and making blockbuster trades. His smaller trades, abysmal. Waiver wire performance, abysmal. Team building abysmal, UFA contracts, abysmal. Coaches, abysmal.
Get em' out before he ruins the rest of our cores prime.

It's probably already too late. Just move the team to Seattle and be done with it already.

Treliving is the Flames best GM since Cliff Fletcher. Hopefully the Flames can hang on to him.

I second that. His resourcefulness and attention to detail is second to none!

While the team looks good right now, i still have concerns about Treliving's cap management and the team's overall approach to goaltenders. Team currently has 6k in cap space according to capfriendly. Makes adds at the deadline pretty difficult.
Hell of an rfa negotiator though, really hope he can work some magic on tkachuk after failing to negotiate with him in the off season when his demand was 7m aav. Would feel alot better if we had him locked up at say 6.5 longterm...if tkachuck holds out or we end up losing a key piece because of his overspending in ufa then he'll be feeling some heat...but not yet.
Side note, I think Crawford would be a great fit in goal for us. Lots of folks don't consider him a top goalie but he is a winner and winning is what its all about. 1.5 years 6m per, how can we make it work?

"Failing to negotiate" with Tkachuk in the off-season seems like a misrepresentation. Tkachuk's camp had no incentive to talk turkey knowing other big contracts for comparable players were pending last summer.

You do know, don't you, that's the cap hit for a 27-man roster with four players injured? Quine and Valiev will be sent back down soon, and Stone, I expect, will be put on retroactive LTIR. That alone opens up almost $5 million in cap space.

Perhaps, but i believe Tre was quoted as saying it was the team's priority after the ufa deals were done. He then proceeded to offer him less than Neal AND new rfa Lindholm.

Comparables aside, why would a player sign a year earlier than they have too? Especially when they are young, on an upward trajectory, and on their entry level deal.
Tkachuk wasn’t signing anything except maybe a ridiculous overpayment.

It came from the Reddit insider that seems to be regarded as BS now.

Brad just needs to take a guys golf weekend every year for Canada Day, a no cell phone, no computer, no outside communication, 36 holes each day golf trip from June 29th until July 3rd. He does that and he could be one of the all-time great GM's.
