Default Ipod Touch Data plan?

Hello resident geeks :-)

My wife wants an ipod, I see this thing called iPod Touch and it says it can do email, them internets etc.
How do I get one hooked up to a network? All she'd need is some email and web browsing.
I am a complete Data plan dummy and have no idea how to get this thing to get online and what providers there are. We currently have telus cell plans btw.

Any help is appreciated.

Ipod touch can only connect to the internet via wifi. So if you have wireless its free.. but it can not connect to a telecom network.

You want an iPhone if you want to be able to access data on it wherever you go in Canada.

Found this a while ago, you can turn an iTouch into an "iPhone".

Not a true iPhone obvioulsy but one of the cooler mods I've seen in a while.

I've heard that jailbroken ipod touches can be quite buggy. But also, I thought the 2nd generation ipod touch had limited potential for jailbreaking.

One possibility is a s60 nokia smart phone and the itouch used as a combo. I know quite a few people use this, just use joikuspot (program that turns your phone into a wifi spot) and just connect to that with your itouch.

If other phones have this program/capability, then they can be used as well. Make sure you have a decent data plan as well.

It's amazing the amount of work people will do just to save a couple bucks.

I would imagine most do it to make something perform beyond it's original specs. People love modding stuff. Not something I'd do myself but pretty impressive anyways.

30 dollars gets you virtually unlimited (6gb). All the other plans are brutal.

My bill comes to $80 - $85 per month total (obviously this includes both talk and data). You can surf all you want. I've often wondered if it would even be possible to use all the allotted data in 30 days without tethering your phone to a laptop and downloading full movies all day.

All the more reason I hope Telus eventually carries the iPhone. $15/mnth = umlimited data/mnth

That's not available anymore though. $30 is for 1GB now I believe.
