Zary is not ready. He needs to go back to the AHL and be the 1C there for a year. Darryl certainly isn't going to rush him.

Phillips has been the best of the bunch vying for the open spot.

Completely agree on Zary.

Not convinced on Phillips. He didn't do much in the last two games and I suspect you're giving him points for his play in Stockton last year

I would love to see Phillips get a shot on RW with 2 other NHLers to his left especially based on the camp he's had up to this point.

I'd run with Phillips to start the year. If you need to upgrade you can do that at any point during the season.

I’m hoping Phillips but it will probably be ruzicka. With zary being waiver exempt think it will be harder for him to earn spot.

I haven't been impressed by any of Toffoli's play on the top line so far this preseason. It makes me nervous about going into the regular season with him on it. Hopefully the line will develop some chemistry.

He's only played two exhibition games, unless I'm missing one, and I think there's a decent case to be made he was the most dangerous forward in both.

I am still starting the season with Toffoli on the top line. I thought the line looked quite good together in the second half of the Calgary game, but that their timing was a bit off.

Yeah, Toffoli on the top line for me. How about we give them more than a couple pre-season games to get things going?

Also, Kadri is a setup guy and needs a shooter too. Mangiapane makes perfect sense on his left side

On the list of Flames forwards I'm actively worried about going into the season, Toffoli is pretty darn low. He's certainly on it — he tailed off late last year — but as long as you don't talk yourself into expecting him to be a point-per-game guy, I think it'll be pretty hard to be disappointed.

As long as he's a 20/20 guy, he'll be fine. And I think that's his baseline.

Yup, exactly. And I think 25/25 should be pretty easy if he is playing with Huberdeau

Ruzicka definitely didn't do anything to earn a spot with the big club, but at this moment in time, it's either him or lil Matty

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Phillips - Kadri - Toffoli
Dube - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic - Rooney - Lewis

or

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Toffoli - Kadri - Ruzicka
Dube - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic - Rooney - Lewis

I think I'd have Coleman on the left before I put Phillips there.
