I think the Flames are ranked a bit high maybe but I'm not worried about any bad juju. Just need the roster to gel quickly and play to expectations and with Sutter I have alot of confidence that will happen.

Sure it was preseason, and against the Kraken... but we still looked a lot better last night without a top line and half of our top D than we have with our entire rosters of some years past.

had to drive up to Edmonton on Friday night and switched to CHED half way up. They went on about the Flames D depth for like 5 mins. How they would slot guys and pairings and then realized we still had Stone, Meloche, Mackey and Valimaki left over.

I wouldn't be worried about being a highly rated team going into the season.

This is a different team now, and with a coach who knows how to manage expectations and outside noise as we saw last year.

The guys we have now have been on teams that have had huge expectations going into the season. Coleman(Tampa), Huberdeau(Florida), Kadri(Colorado), Weegar(Florida). 2 of those guys have won the last 3 cups.

Note that Johnny CHOSE to go from 4. Flames to 27. Columbus.

For less money.

And shorter term.

Also, the entire league is slotted between 85 and 97 points (and seemingly randomly).

When you build models, one of the simplest and most important tests of the model is to see if the results make sense - are they reasonable?

And when they are this far removed from 'reasonable', they are either breaking new ground (unlikely) or the model is garbage (more likely). In this case, the model is CLEARLY garbage. The fact that hey tweeted out the results is astounding, as it just makes them look like idiots.

Surprised they are ranked this high, but they had 111 points last year and were advanced stat darlings all season, then improved significantly at C and D in the off season.

I'm always wary of the Flames when they are predicted to be good though. Hopefully they prove the predictions right.

I think the 2nd line will produce better but I think too many people are discounting just how special the 1st line was last season. It will likely be decades until we see anything like that again in Calgary.
Think we’re a better balanced team now though. Which will make us much harder to play against.

Patty Kane at the trade deadline?

Surprised that the Flames are ranked this high, given the huge changes and time it might take to build chemistry.

Without the goaltending question, the Leafs are an easy #2. Also, they’re the Leafs, so they could be #1, or they could be #18.

For a team I grew up loathing, I actually have some sympathy for them.
