Re the Chess.
Ive seen a lot of educated commentary which points out Hans's interviews as being highly highly suspicious or non traditional. He often cant explain any strategy behind some of his best moves, or talk thru a game after the fact. He just resorts to "the chess speaks for itself".

We’ve got runaway inflation, threat of nuclear war with the Russians, and the best chess player resigned his world championship and is becoming increasingly enigmatic. It’s the 70s all over again!

Went down the rabbit hole and got some more insight on the fishing scandal. The news is blowing up in the fishing world and for good reason
- The cheaters, Jake Runyan and Chase Cominsky, have been winning major competitions since 2016 with notable recent prizes including boats and $300,000. They also have various sponsorship deals
- The video only shows Jake Runyan frozen in his place as everyone around him was screaming at him. His teammate, Chase Cominsky, was nowhere to be seen as he likely had ran off when the competition organizer started to inspect their fish
- Their "winning" fish totalled a combined weight of 33 lbs. 8 lbs of it, were lead/other fish weights. Second place had 16 lbs of fish
- Their peers had suspected the pair had been cheating for sometime. Often citing that their fish didnt look like the weight it was officially weighed in at in previous competitions. It looked marginally bigger than the runner up's fish. This was the first time an organizer had inspected and cut up their fish
- The pair had recently been disqualified at a major competition earlier this year for failing a polygraph test. They had hired a lawyer to sue the organisers however that might change with this current turn of events

Clearly they are pretty good fishermen as they were winning without the weights and I just don't understand why you would cross the line and undermine your own talents by cheating. Greed is the downfall of man.

In an effort to be fair on this I’ve seen the other side of this commentary too which points out that the interviews you’re talking about are not compelling evidence of cheating, and that the statistical analysis is apparently not conclusive either (though I honestly don’t understand that well enough to comment). I’ve landed on “I don’t know” for now.
Apparently chess.com is going to release some sort of detailed statement in the near future but it will likely focus on Hans’ online games, not the OTB games that are the specific issue here. Though I suppose if he has lied about the extent of his cheating online that doesn’t look very good for this situation.

I like to play chess but am not knowledgable enough to make much of a comment. Don't know anything about fishing.
I do know a bit about poker though and can't possibly see anyway in which that lady was cheating. The only possible way it would make sense is if she somehow knew the turn and river (X2) cards before the dealer turned them over. I can't think of any scenario where that could have been the case so I think this is much ado about nothing. The call made no sense, but I've had people make calls like that before (not for $270k, bit I digress) on me. It's poker, there is no one way to play. The guy should give her the money back, it sounds like he strong armed her out of it, I'm guessing that #### wouldn't have occurred had the player been another male as opposed to a female....but I could be wrong about that.

That's assuming they actually caught those fish legitimately, and didn't stage them somewhere.

I know nothing about Poker, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, I am also, by any metric, a very poor Gambler. However I gamble occasionally for the lulz.
I would say that I have won more often by making an unpredictable, panicky, stupid move than I have through thoughtful and careful consideration of the odds.

Yeah...I mean, this could just be the tip of the cheating iceberg.

Reminds me of people who cheat in marathons by taking shortcuts and otherwise not running the full distance. This lady got caught after she took the subway and then miraculously finished first in the 1980 Boston Marathon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosie_Ruiz

Again...as a non-marathoner...I think thats hilarious.
Wasnt there one guy who took a Cab?
Do they take their little numbers off so passers-by dont immediately know what they're doing? They're still covered in spandex and runner's gear.
It has to be the most obvious grift since 3-card Monty and yet people still do it.

A cool trick is to put a t-shirt on...OMG! Where'd the runner go???
I've heard of them using stashed bikes, too.

Where do they get it from? If they're carrying it at the beginning of the marathon its not like theres a lot of places to hide it.
"Hey mara-bro whats the t-shirt for?"
- "Uh...no reason..."
It'd be hilarious if you're running the NY marathon and plan on cheating by stashing a bike and by the time you get there its been stolen.
"Well damn...now how am I going to get home? I suppose I'll have to jog?"

Chess.com issued their findings and say that Niemann cheated more and more recently than as a 12 and 16 year old.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/chess-c...en-11664911524
Quote:
Now, how ever, an investigation into Niemann’s play—conducted by Chess.com, an online platform where many top players compete—has found the scope of his cheating to be far wider and longer-lasting than he publicly admitted.
The report, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, alleges that Niemann likely received illegal assistance in more than 100 online games, as recently as 2020. Those matches included contests in which prize money was on the line. The site uses a variety of cheating-detection tools, including analytics that compare moves to those recommended by chess engines, which are capable of beating even the greatest human players every time.

It's tough, I don't know how the cheating could have occurred in the Chess example, but everything coming out makes Niemann seem entirely too shady, and I can see why Magnus is extremely suspect.
But how did he do it if so? Is the anal vibrator a real thing? I refuse to believe it lol.

Why? I think if you're going to cheat then you should be willing to go all the way.

I'm thinking logistically- not unbelievable from a would someone even consider that method perspective. Hell, Niemann could really enjoy butt stuff for all I know.
But, how would a vibrating pulse have enough settings/patterns to communicate proper chess moves in short order for an in person chess match?
It's not like niemann could hover his hand over different pieces and expect vibrates over the correct one, for example lol. Was there like a system of patterns? Even so, it would be so difficult to effectively communicate exactly which move a specific piece needs to make.

All I know of chess I learned from The Queen's Gambit, but aren't they referenced like "Queens Rook 1 to Kings Knight 7" or something like that? So you could quickly Morse code "QR1 KK7" with a fairly short series of long and short butt buzzes.
