Given how hot that seat is for Southgate, not taking Maguire could actually buy him a little goodwill with the fans. And he needs all the goodwill he can get. Or he'll be a moron and take him and start him and watch him cost them dearly. I'm cool with that lol.
I dont know what evidence Maguire has on Southgate, but I would guess that unless Southgate wins the World Cup, this is probably his last tournament.

And no, it would have taken a disaster for England to sack Southgate at this late stage.

They totally should though. All of those players are capable pros, Southgate's tactics are awful, he is still far too risk-averse considering the talent he has available.
Two teams who have no real idea on how to attack, are simply relying on their talent to do something individually

With amount of attacking talent both have its not good signs

Bigger issue with Maguire now is it seems Southgate realized Dier is the best option in center or the back 3, hes the best ball playing cb we have and conte has drilled into him his positioning

Maguire and Dier can not play together, left side of the defense would just be absolutely toasted multiple times a game against the better teams with speed up top

Walker at rcb with dier is a good start, anyone but maguire at lcb

Spain's new jersey is terrible.

Portugal's is weird with the half/half shirts.

Since winning hosting rights for the World Cup over a decade ago, Qatar has faced scrutiny and criticism for its treatment of migrant workers and the LGTBQ+ community, among other human rights issues.

The alleged abuses affecting legions of low-paid labourers who power Qatar's economy and who built its gleaming World Cup stadiums have been a lighting rod for protest around the world, especially in Europe.

Qatar has repeatedly pushed back, insisting the country has improved protections for migrant workers and claiming the criticism is outdated.

In a televised speech before the emirate's legislative body on Tuesday, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said Qatar "has been subjected to an unprecedented campaign that no host country has ever faced."

Rights groups have credited Qatar with improving its labour laws, such as by adopting a minimum monthly wage of around $275 a month in 2020, and for dismantling the "kafala" system that had prevented workers from changing jobs or leaving the country without the consent of their employers. However, activists call for more to be done.

One of the richest countries on the face of the Earth and loves to flaunt it.

"But we pay people $275/month tho..."

Are you serious? Thats poverty. Thats just slavery with a couple extra steps.

Turns out Maguire got called up again, over Ben White.
Kalvin Phillips too. Have the two of them combined for 90 minutes since the World Cup?

Southgate and his stupid bias and grudges…

Honestly, why is there another international window when we already had a month long break for the WC? It's just so stupid.

Scotland 3-0 Cyprus and Spain 3-0 Norway (without haaland). Scotland v Spain later this week. Should be a good match.

When did McTominay turn into Haaland? Four goals in his past two games, and Scotland beating Spain

the Spanish whining is nothing but spectacular. Rodri complaining about diving and time-wasting is hilarious, but blaming the long grass easily takes the cake. Klopp would be proud.

Quote:
Rodri, however, was scathing about Scotland's performance and accused them of time-wasting.

"It's the way they play, but for me it's rubbish, always wasting time, provoking you, always they fall," he said. "For me, this is not football. The referee has to take on this, but he says nothing.

Spain’s frustrations did not stop there, with debutant Osasuna defender Daniel Garcia blaming the length of the Hampden Park grass as a factor in their poor performance.

“We already saw that the grass was too long, and that cost us,” Garcia told Marca. “We can’t make excuses for that, we have to look at ourselves and fix what we did wrong today.”

They should send Spain to play in Edmonton.

As much as I hate the Mexicans, they did not complain at all about playing at the Iceteca.

I think the grass is a real complaint, teams used to do it to peps barca when they were all about possession and sideways passing

Let it grow a few weeks and suddenly ground passes are anot tougher

Some random FIFA news.

Indonesia has been stripped of hosting the World U20 because Israel qualified and the president won't host them.

Peru has been stripped of hosting the World U17 because it failed infrastructure requirements. How corrupt do you have to be to not make requirements for a tournament with such low attendance.

Anyways, bring both tournaments to Canada. No politics here!

I’ve said it before but Calgary should build a 35,000 seater stadium identical to Juventus’ and be a perpetual host for Winter Olympics and the new home of Canadas national soccer teams in the West.

Canadian Winter Olympics athletes live and train here anyway. It’s about time we get the Oval up to par and new ski jumps and bobsled track. Let’s go.
