How long has the Young and the Restless been on TV.
There is a market for near anything.

It's still a huge money making franchise for AMC.
They are going to milk it until it runs dry.

Having a new setting might not be a bad thing as long as the explanation to how he got there makes sense.

Supposedly the virus originated in France and so he is apparently going there at the request of Maggie to find some answers? I read that somewhere anyways.

I might actually try watching these spin offs.
IMO it will help having the cast trimmed down to keep my interest up. My main problem with TWD was the cast was too bloated and there were just too many storylines going to care about or keep up with.

How's he getting to France though. There hasn't been any gas or fuel production in this world for a decade, anything with an engine is out of commission. He's gonna sail across the Atlantic?

The finale was... meh. About what I expected. You knew it was going to set up the spin-offs, which IMO should never have been announced before the end of the show.
I'll probably watch the Rick and Michonne show, and I'll probably give Dead City a shot simply because I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan so much. But I think Daryl's character has been done to death at this point. Probably won't tune into that one.
Dropped Fear a few seasons ago and never even attempted World Beyond. They're in Star Wars/Marvel territory right now (in terms of quantity, quality is another debate). Sometimes less is more.

That is called the "Norman Reedus is making us a ton of money and wants to film in a cool new location" demand.

I mean it is possible that there are still sailing vessels that can make the voyage.

I guess, but is there the ability to do the upkeep on them over the past 10 years?
I can't recall the time line.

Yeah I'm not sure, I know next to nothing about nuclear powered ships/subs.

Me either, but I reckon the chances of someone know how to sail across the ocean is great than them knowing how to drive a nuclear boat/sub across the ocean.

They also have nothing left. There was a time they had Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Walking Dead and some other all running simultaneously. Now it's just Walking Dead IP.

Possible sure but I imagine you'd need to be a fairly accomplished sailor and navigator to be able to make the trip, especially with no digital navigation or GPS. Plus needing to find and bring with you weeks of non-perishable supplies... it just doesn't seem possible in a post-apocalypse.
So I'm sure they'll hand-wave it away, lol

It wouldn't be so hard if you could find a big power boat with fuel. Head east. A decent boat will have a desalination unit, so you grab a few deer and toss them in the freezer.
But they'll probably have him find some busted up looking sailboat and a fishing rod.
