There's a scene in Titanic when Bill Paxton's character opens the safe taken from the Titanic wreckage, when he's expecting to find the big diamond inside, and his bearded friend says "same thing happened to Geraldo and his career never recovered". Of course referring to the whole Al Capone's vault tv special that ended up producing nothing at all.

Except that despite the empty vault, the special was a huge ratings success and basically launched Geraldo's career to new heights. It was more like the catalyst to becoming a household name. Essentially the exact opposite of what the guy suggested.

I wonder if regular people who drive Ford Explorers with winter steel rims ever get tired of every car around them slowing down because they look like a cop

I've found some police vehicles, including Explorers have their exhausts pointed downwards. Haven't noticed if it's all of them, but those dark rosy red ones do. So exhaust pointed downwards; = police.

I always try to spot if there is a shotgun or cage visible through the windows. Definitely not foolproof when people have dogs.

I use to love how you could check for the "lease" registration sticker on undercover police vehicles if you were coming up on one that was going 100km on deerfoot or wherever. Now that they got rid of those I have to be more careful.

There was a time when all police vehicles had CRL- license plates. Those were the days...

TIL that renowned children’s author Roald Dahl wrote You Only Live Twice, the James Bond movie. I’m not surprised the movie wasn’t very good because he’s a crappy author and all his books sucked too.

Fantastic Mr Fox would have been a good Bond film.

Dahl was supposedly a spy during the Second World War, and may have been one of Fleming's inspirations for Bond.

His autobiography is probably his best book. Good stories as a pilot in the RAF during the war

I like Dahl's books. I honestly wish he wrote more adult short stories. They were twisted and unique, even now.

Skin sticks out to me. A famous artist tattoos a man before he was famous creating a unique piece of art that is very valuable to collectors.

Or a guy who is an unrepentant womanizer who after being warned, sleeps with the wrong woman.

As someone who used to drive an explorer that was almost identical to the model used by the police at the time, I can confirm this to be the case.

Just wanted to bump this thread as over the past few weeks I have seen a couple fender benders at the new John Laurie lights at Charleswood and the one this week was a multi-vehicle doozie where tow trucks were still collecting cars the next morning. I hope the decisions makers for this one start feeling a little hot around the collar as over the years this one's not going to look good as it was a really bad idea.

The feeling of finally getting that stuck piece of popcorn kernel out of your teeth is right up there with getting a stubborn sneeze out or blowing out a massive booger that completely clears up your sinuses

I encountered this light for the first time this past week. I’d forgotten it was planned to be installed. It was rush hour and holy crap what a schizzlefest. Totally effs with traffic flow and safety. The right answer would have been to remove the ability to turn into or off of the west bound lane thereby removing conflict rather than adding lights.

Okay so I haven’t been to a major sporting event in ages but I am tomorrow. Someone sent me tickets to my ticketmaster account. I received an error, but then everything appeared normal. I added the tickets to my apple wallet. However, when I look at the tickets, there isn’t a QR code or barcode or anything. It just says hold near reader… is this normal? I feel ancient.

Ya you’re good. That’s how it works with apple. Reader will pick it up just by being held next to your phone like it says.

Yep. It’s like Apple Pay. Hold it near the reader and it’ll probably prompt you to use touch id or whatever it is on newer phones.
