Everything else being equal, I would have wanted XCOM 3 but they (Firaxis and Jake) seem super happy/excited for the chance to make this so I'll get it. They have never really steered me wrong.

The metacritic reviews are strong, so that's a good sign.

Nice!
I wish Firaxicon was still a thing. It was so cool to see what Firaxis was up to behind the scenes, nevermind meeting and hanging out with Sid Meier and Jake Solomon.

Firaxis is just a good company. Civ 6, which has been out for over half a decade at this point, is still receiving solid DLC season passes.
Busted out the SNES mini to play some Chrono Trigger recently.

Sounds like the Callisto Protocol falls short of Dead Space quality given the tepid reviews. Too bad but I will still try it when it's on sale or Gamepass.

The Digital Foundry performance review was pretty interesting. Runs pretty great on the PS5 (both performance and quality modes), On series X the quality mode is in terrible shape with sub 30 FPS and missing ray traced reflections so it is best to play on Performance mode for now. Series x is what you expect.
Now for PC, apparently its currently unplayable for some due to shader compilation stutter.

I think there's a patch for the Series X that makes it run in higher resolution in ray tracing mode than the PS5 but yes still missing reflections it seems.

But applying the patch 1.2 and then 1.3 it now performs much better and is close to a locked 30fps to now be in the same range as the PS5. In this mode though the Series X has the resolution advantage now, with it often hitting 2880x1620 versus the PS5 often being at 2688x1512, giving a 14% resolution increase in this mode.

Holy crap was mile morales story good but #### me it was way way too short for the cost on day 1.
Great story line but #### me what a waste of cash. It was basically dlc level of time and full game price yikes.

I wish games were still in the $65 range.
I do think it was more than it should have been but I think $89.99 for full-priced games is too much too.
They always did say it was a standalone expansion so the length wasn't too disappointing to me. I'm one of those people though who tries to do everything so that stretches out the length.

Game prices have been remarkably steady for a long time. What's the issue with $90 for a AAA experience of 20 hours? Seems like a pretty good bang for your entertainment buck. That, and games are way more expensive to make these days - or at least, at the levels of graphics people expect these days.
I'm not immune to criticizing game prices though. I trend towards games with lower entry prices and high replay value. Hades was probably the best example of that in recent memory. (I say this while playing Radiant Silvergun lately, which was $30 and offers insane replay value)

I just think $100 after tax for a game is too much. The only time I ever pre-order a game now is if I have Amazon gift cards and nothing else that I want to spend them on. I also have a huge backlog too so I'm better off waiting for the price to drop.
Back when games were $60-$70 I used to pre-order all the time.

Yeah, there are very few games I will go in on the $90 price point for. I did God of War, and will do Final Fantasy XVI. Can't think of much else -- Nintendo's big games are still $80 (for now).

I don't mind paying full price for AAA games if the reviews support it but there has to be some meat on the bone. The Callisto Protocol for example is a single player game that's only 10 hours long. That's a really hard sell at full price even if the reviews were really good.

Yeah I'd love to play the MWII campaign, I couldn't care less about the multiplayer. It's 6 hours. That's a hard sell even at 50% off let alone full price.

I would put money on that game being on Gamepass within the next 3 months

Dwarf Fortress is on Steam and looks a lot more accessible with graphics and a decent tutorial. I’ve been meaning to try it so that’s exciting.

Vampire Survivors is free to play on mobile. The controls are ok. Definitely worth checking out.
