Thornton's 2020 Islanders tenure has come to a brief end.
"What the hell, TheScorpion?" Thornton was heard saying as he stormed out of Nassau Coliseum Monday morning. "You trade for me, just to trade me a week later for a worse return? What kind of clown show is this?"
Thornton was traded to the Avalanche on Monday for a conditional 2021 fourth in a deal that was widely perceived as a cost-cutting move. The deal came after Saturday's revelation that the Islanders, following a flurry of activity during the playoffs, had dug themselves into an enormous cap hole.
The fourth coming to the Islanders is conditional upon Thornton not having retired by the Sharks' 15th game in the 2020–21 NHL season.

Inter-state rivals the Islanders and Rangers have hooked up on a deal.
The Islanders have sent Jason Demers and pick 92 in the 2020 draft to the Rangers in exchange for Calvin de Haan and $1.5 million.
"This deal saves us some money and brings in an ex-NHL Islander defenseman who we like," said TheScorpion.
"What the #### is going on around here?" said Demers. "This team is a mess. So glad to be going to the Rangers, maybe that GM knows what he's doing."

Pens make two deals
To Calgary
Erik Karlsson
To Pittsburgh
Cam York
2021 3rd
1 mill cap
Surprised there wasn’t more of a market on EK. We are are high on York though so glad to get a 1st round prospect that we drafted last season come back.
And in a hockey trade:
To Minnesota
Rickard Rakell
Morgan Frost
2mill
To Pittsburgh
Charlie McAvoy
Bobby “Orr” Brink
Pens have an access or high end forwards and noticed the Wild had a lot of top young D so we figured we would be a good trade match.

The Islanders have agreed to terms on a deal with the Senators which sees forward Derick Brassard shipped off to Ottawa for Blake Comeau and a 5th.
This deal clears a bit of cap for the Islanders and adds a useful forward on a better contract. We'll probably look into flipping Comeau. Glad to get a pick out of it, too.

The Islanders have re-acquired our all-time favourite player from the Ducks, Nick Jensen, in exchange for Dean Kukan and 86th overall

We have agreed to terms on a deal with San Jose which sees us acquire dman Nick Leddy from the Sharks in exchange for defensemen Nick Jensen and Tucker Poolman.

I traded Bailey for Poolman, Greer, and Kokkonen.
I got Jensen for Kukan and a 4th.
So basically I traded a third of Bailey, Kukan and a 4th for Leddy.
Leddy had the same rating as Bailey last year and costs less than half as much.

We've dealt Nic Aube-Kubel to the Canes for some sweet, sweet dough.

Flames and Devils make a deal that took a while to hammer out, thanks for the patience!
Calgary gets Sidney Crosby, 31 OV this year and Rasmus Andersson
New Jersey gets Adam Fox, Dallas 1st 2021, Ottawa 2nd 2021
Hopefully the cup finalists have a hangover next year and these are good picks or else this could be a steal for Calgary.
We like getting Fox on a cheap contract for the next two seasons, even tough in real life he's a dink for not wanting to sign with Calgary.

Wow nice trade for both teams. Like it for Calgary but I understand the angle of needing to clear salary.

So Crosby is a minor trade now...man I have been out of CP for a while
Lots of sellers, not a lot of buyers so tough to find deals.
I am still rather surprised that teams don't want to make themselves better. I get rebuilding...but as long as you trade value for value, you'll always be able to move that asset later.
Anyways good job GM's

I agree with this. You can trade a young asset for a good vet. Then, flip the vet at the deadline if it's not working out. What surprised me this year was the lack of trade deadline deals. Some teams did a great job of loading up for the playoffs. Then again, the sim is a bitch.

Dallas trading for Martin Jones at the deadline was one of the smartest moves of the year.
What I don't get is -- I'm offering a guy like Anisimov for a 4th right now. Ppl should be biting on that all day, all night. But... nope.

Dallas also brought in Kopitar and Spurgeon. Smart moves.
Also, Anisimov sucks out loud.

Cap is the issue.
It's not Anisimov for a 4th
It's Anisimov for a 4th+3.55M
Teams that have cap space are in the leverage position.
