I think that spells the end of Miller. Pretty solid deal by Rutherfurd.

in other Canuck news, Brad Shaw leaves his assistant coach position and rejoins John Tortorella's staff in Philly

Canucks replace him with Mike Yeo

Funny coincidence, this is the second time Brad Shaw has left an organization for Mike Yeo. Shaw (or Kirk Muller) were in line to replace Ken Hitchcock as the Blues head coach, but Mike Yeo was hired as an associate and promised the job in a year. Both Shaw and Muller quit as a result

Notified no trade in final year Dhaliwal says

I think it's a fair deal, he had a 7.5m QO he could have forced

Agreed that Miller is likely gone by draft or free agency start, it sounds like they are already close on a new deal with Horvat, hes eligible to sign next month

My friend's out here sound unhappy about all of this. They don't like Yeo, they think Cull was terrible in the A, and are confused about Colliton lol. Also not happy about Shaw leaving.

Shaw helped stabilize a very shallow d-core and is highly thought of.

Canucks fans blame Cull for not doing more with the few draft picks made during his tenure as coach in the A, as well as for pushing out a couple players (Palmu and Dahlen). For the record, I'm not a huge fan of him as a developmental coach, but not sure if that is an issue that translates to the NHL. Mike Yeo is disliked for obvious reasons.

That seems... fine? Not great not bad? He's a good player but seems to get hurt a lot. I guess he had a high qualifying offer that gave him some leverage.

Never really sure what to think about Boeser. Can be a good player when he wants to, and when things are going well. Can be completely invisible, and easy to play against, much of the time.

Kind of like the Canucks in general.

Weird to take less money than his qualifying offer. He’s a one dimensional player but that dimension is what gets players paid.

Boeser appears to be trending towards a west coast version of RNH.

Higher expectations after being drafted, still signs of decent skill and decent attitude, though never going to be the leader and total package as some hoped to lead the team to a cup, but rather a quiet complimentary player, sometimes hurt, sometimes forgotten, who prefers comfort over change in his on ice and off ice situation.

As for Shaw, back when I wrote a post on how he was basically running the Jackets when I had sat behind the Flames bench for a game when GG was coach and Jagr was on the team.

Flames bench coaches were mutes, all of them. Torts would bark some orders out and yuk it up with some players like Hartnell, but Shaw was leading the show there, running the defense mostly. But he was very demonstrative so I am sure cut from a similar cloth to Torts.

No surprise Torts wants him back.

the opposite of betting on himself...46 points last season. Not a terrible idea to take the sure thing over 3 years than slightly more for one.

There’s just something about a professional athlete not betting on themself that rubs me the wrong way. It’s like he doesn’t have faith in his abilities to rip off a good season. A guy like him that’s not fleet of foot needs to hammer out a career contract before he loses a step.

I've always liked him and I get the feeling his meh performance last season was 100% because of his father's health situation.

Yup.

The breakeven, for the next two years is $6.225M. So by taking the $6.65M, he is saying that he doesn't think he would get more than $6.225M a year from now. For a 25 YO 1st round pick, that is really lame.

Or, he and his agent are just really bad at math.

Well, to be fair, the actual number is 6.375, because I'm assuming if they hadn't reached a deal the Canucks would have taken him to team elected arbitration to reduce his 1 year salary by 15%.
