That is the most utterly tone deaf statement you could ever possibly make in a situation like this. But it does fit in with my theory that if we are living in a simulation, America is the epicentre of boldly hinting at it with absurdity.
If this happened in Canada it would dominate the news for weeks. But in the states it almost seems not newsworthy considering there are no deaths. Hopefully it stays that way.

Too bad it would probably be Democrats, in which the Republicans would cheer.
Well, if that's the case, at least it wakes the Dem up and grow a pair and try to do something about it. I mean really do something about regulating guns purchases.

in the wake of Sandy Hook, the Democrats tried to get universal background checks and had Gabby Giffords imploring the Senate to vote for the bill.
it ultimately failed, 54 to 46, with 4 GOP supporting it, and 5 Democrats flipping sides...
Voting flips aside, this is not a bill that would have passed with a simple majority anyways. A filibuster would have surely been invoked, raising the margin to a super majority 60 votes. A number virtually impossible to get in today's day and age.
This is why the Senate votes are more important than the House votes...You could pass a bill in the House 435-0 and the Senate could still shoot it down 51-49 and send it back to the House.

That 5 Dems that flipped sides should be called out and shamed.
