I don't think he ever wore #3 in Calgary. If he did, he switched very early. I only remember him as #5.

I still hold a grudge against Musil for having the OT winner in Game 7 in 1991 deflecting off his ass.

Agreed.

I went with Musil, but that was short sighted on second thought.

Phaneuf and Musil had basically the same tenure in Calgary, and Phaneuf was certainly an impact player for his years in Calgary.

I likely let fondness of an era and a dislike for the Phaneuf departure cloud my vote.

Think he wore 5 in Calgary and 3 in Atlanta

He always came across as a very down to earth guy. I still remember the story in the Herald about how every off-season he'd work in a butcher shop for fun.

A sentimental favorite for sure.

Frantisek Musil. Solid, steady and fairly dependable.

James Patrick was also a very good player. He didn't play his best hockey in Calgary as he had less PP time than in other stops. But in terms of overall body of work he might rate as having had the best overall career of that group. Had he been healthier he may have had more of an impact in his days as a Flame. That deal Risebrough made with Hartford should have yielded more playoff success than it did.

Dion was so dominant his first few seasons, he was one of the most exciting players in the league

Almost any other season he would have won the Calder, All star team and 50 points in his second season, All Star again in his 3rd season with 60 points, and was the cover athlete for NHL 09. He came 2nd in Norris voting as a 23 year old, losing to one of the greatest dmen of all time

It's really too bad his career took a downturn, because he was a superstar
