If the Flames want to honor a player then they honor the player. It shouldn't have to mean that the player become an active or frequent member of the team's alumni. I'm sure Ray Bourque isn't very involved with Avalanche alumni.

I don't believe your theory.

^ while MacInnis does deserve to be up there, lets not use the pathetically embarrassing Avs Bourque situation as the benchmark for anything.

A pure self ego stroke by Lacroix. And Bourque not innocent either, he could've turned down a jersey retirement very quietly and quickly as well, for a team he played less than 100 regular season games for.

It would be pretty weird if the team announced they were going to retire MacInnis' jersey and not have him show up for the ceremony.

While they certainly could have retired it without his approval, I can't imagine that they ever would have.

Growing up I would watch the Simpsons episode where Lisa befriends a smarter girl named Allison. At one point, Lisa goes over to her house and is introduced to the anagram game: They take proper names and rearrange the letters to form a description of that person.

The example they then give is Alec Guinness: genuine class.

Which I always heard as Al MacInnis. Genuine class.

And was thrilled to have a former Flame honoured by my favourite show.

/ cool story brah!

Well now we can narrow down Commodore’s CP account to 8 choices.

I will always remember how excited everyone on this site was when Wrenka's contract came off the books. Getting sn extra 1.5 to spend for a 33 million dollar payroll as huge.

I fully understand that I am in the minority here but I am amazed that there is such a demand to retire a jersey for a guy that played his final TEN seasons away from the Flames. There is no question that he is our all time best D man but this was not an Iggy situation where he chased the cup at the tail end, he left here in his prime and spent a decade away. Do you think the Habs would have retired Rocket Richard's number if he went to play for the Rangers for 10 years?

They retired Roy's number.

Patrick Roy played 46.45% of his career regular season games and 53.63% of his career playoff games in Colorado.

Al MacInnis played 43.29% of his career regular season games and 46.33% of his career playoff games in St. Louis.

An argument can be made he's a top 5 d-man of all time. If not top five, then certainly top 10.

He STILL leads the Flames in assists after only playing half his career here.
