The Carolina Hurricanes took advantage of the 2020 Trade Deadline to get a head start with spring cleaning before the 2019-2020 season came to a close
First, the Hurricanes sent young rising prospect
Sasha Chmelevski to the New York Islanders in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the 2020 and 2021 draft. Chmelevski had been climbing the depth charts in the Hurricanes organization since his draft but there simply were only so many spots available in the Hurricanes AHL affiliate Albany River Rats next season. So the Canes had to make the moves to start address the logjam, Chmelevski will get a better chance to develop in Long Island as a result.
In other moves the Hurricanes released AHL forwards
Matthew Strome and
Kirill Maksimov, The Hurricanes made no statement to the reasoning of the players release but it has been rumored to a player conduct incident that may have happened recently.
