Well done sir, I for one live in Victoria and appreciate you starting the thread and informing me.

Also congrats on being a part of such a great foundation!

I think you're being naive if you don't think perhaps one of the owners didn't tell them to try and make them look good.
And it appears there's a lot on here that are willing to forgive and forget really quickly.

My opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Edit: Look at it another way.
I applaud the donations it's a wonderful gesture. But do we normally here of the Foundations donations? No. They're normally done quietly with no fanfare. So why now do we hear about it?
There's a lot of grassroots things the foundation does without much fanfare, but they have always announced their major initiatives. All that's changed is that you're suddenly paying attention right now and feel a need to be a twit about it. And yes, you are entitled to your opinion. What you are not entitled to is to be shielded from criticism when your opinion is awful.

Ok so what if it is an attempt at atonement? And so what if it is being publicized to draw attention to it?

In my mind, it’s still a good thing and I’m glad they’re doing it.

I’m not expecting to be shielded from any criticism I said in my first reply the criticism was not unexpected.
Because I have a dissenting opinion doesn’t mean I should be called an a$$hole. I also should not have replied in kind.

As for Moneyhands23 getting banned for having an unpopular opinion? I’m sure glad I don’t live in your world.

People really need to move on. The world is changing on a daily basis and decisions made in the past clearly would have been made differently with the benefit of hindsight. This is about a community coming together and trying to move forward.

I apologize for that. Way over the top.

Honestly I hope you are well and I look forward to seeing you post again, hopefully in a game thread

I remember reading how Microsoft and Amazon each donated $1M for COVID relief, as did my employer who has a $65B market cap

Just an illustration of what the Flames Foundation is doing in S.Alta

Yes, it could be seen as atonement for poor decision making by Flames ownership. They really screwed the pooch on taking care of their staff and I am still deeply embarrassed by that.

Hopefully, the support from the Flames Foundation will at least give these charities additional time to put together plans to sustain themselves in the face of a double whammy of COVID-19 and a collapse in oil prices.

It ultimately is great news to our community - once the COVID-19 situation is over, there will be a very long economic recovery period and we will need those organizations doing their great work to help out with a lot of vulnerable people.

Regardless of the PR miss earlier, good on the Foundation for making this move.

Since you're on the board, can you provide a little insight about whether the Flames owners themselves contribute personally to the foundation? Looking at the annual report, it looks like at least 84% of revenue comes from 50/50 and fundraising events, but nothing really mentioned about Flames/Ownership contribution (maybe they are part of 6% donations+sponsorships?).

In the end it doesn't necessarily matter where the money is coming from if it helps those in need, but I'm sure many would be more willing to heap more praise on the Flames themselves if they knew ownership were personally making donations too. Otherwise optically it can often look like they are just repurposing the generosity of others.
